The references to Arizona buildings being used for porn after hours aren't entirely satirical or random. I, er, am aware of a couple of past adult websites (of the voyeuristic "models in a house" type), and they were based in Phoenix.

I contend that this show may not really be a sitcom, but is instead a puzzle-box TV show that happens to be richly flavored with genius-level comedy. It just doesn’t seem to have the beats of typical, or even atypical, sitcoms. I vaguely remember seeing/reading an interview after the first season’s finale aired, that Michael Schur had reached out to the head writers of LOST to get feedback on the four-season structure and the peeling-back-the-onion nature of the narrative? Or they hired writers from LOST to be a part of TGP writers’ room? Or some connection(s) like that to LOST?🤷🏼‍♀️ Point being, I’m pretty sure seeking that type of talent and/or advice says a lot about what they were attempting to create. Sitcom or not, I also contend that this is one of the funniest shows ever created, regardless of genre or structure, and lives at the tippy-top of my very short list of “Perfect Shows.” It is perfection from its first episode to series finale, IMHO.💛

I love this show to bits, but I gotta be honest, this episode is one of the reasons why season 3 is my least favourite. It just feels like filler to me, nothing much happens and I think the whole Eleanor-loves-Chidi drama would have been a 5-minute scene if this was season 1. Overall I feel like this season stretches out a bit, especially compared to the breakneck pace of the earlier ones. After this there is - in my humble opinion - one more dud left to go, but then thankfully it's back to full speed until the end of the show.

He did talk to one of the LOST creators to get thoughts about structuring a serialized show (Lost was 6 seasons), and the advice focused on having the whole story structure (if not necessarily every detail) firmly in place before starting to write, and making sure that anything you introduce gets paid off (because Lost got caught short on both points, and suffered with audiences for it). I'm not aware of the two shows having any writers in common, but I haven't checked on that.

I love this episode so much. A ton of amazing moments for Ted and Kristen together.

I agree with you that it is not a sitcom; in fact, I feel like one of the staples of a sitcom is a realistic and familiar setting for the audience (a home, a workplace). The afterlife definitely does not apply!

TGP and LOST are my two favorite shows. I've always felt they share a ton of similar qualities and care about similar questions like makes people good etc. it just has such a different tone that they don't get compared much. I completely agree this show is perfect. I thought them doing one episode a week would kill me but it gives them time to sit with the themes of the show and it's clear they are thinking about it in between viewings. Great reactions.

You know, I can see where you're coming from. I'm actually loving that they are taking the time to show us these moments. It switches up the pace and although I love the pace of the first two seasons. I like that this is different

I've said it before, but LOST is my #1 - (as evidenced by my recreated pic avatar on the left) - can't wait for these two to watch it!

I do want to watch Reboot 444 though.... :D

Yes! Totally worth it. The writers of LOST may not have stuck the landing like we fans expected, but the ending has almost nothing to do with the bulk of the story, and the LOST story is a fun ride🙂. You may or may not like the finale when you get there (just like the rest of us 🤣), but personally, I really liked it.* I didn’t LOVE it, but I also didn’t hate it, and I certainly didn’t let it retroactively ruin my enjoyment of the six seasons preceding the final episode. The best analogy I can think of is this: let’s say your friends are raving about a spectacular hike to the top of a popular mountain. They say to you, “You’ll love the twists, the turns, the beauty of the journey, and the surprises along the trail!” So you go on the hike, and you’re friends we’re right, it’s amazing! But then you get to the summit, and think to yourself, “Meh. The view from this vantage point isn’t my favorite.” The mediocre view from the top does not negate the awesome journey up the mountain. Even if your friends show you a picture they took from the summit beforehand, thus “spoiling” the end of the hike for you, you shouldn’t let their spoiler rob you of experiencing the journey for yourself. 🏔 * Full disclosure, I am one of THOSE people who thinks the finale of the Sopranos was genius🖤, so who knows if my opinion of finales should carry any weight here.🤣

In the fruit fly sex panopticon experiment (it's not really called that, but it's really fun to say) they established even fruit flies, some of the simplest multicellular lifeforms, may be capable of free will. It just uses a lot of calories to absorb and process information and make decisions based on it, which gives an evolutionary advantage to animals that simply copy the actions of the animals in front of them with no reflection. In short, science has proved free will is real, but exhausting.
