When Ned was writing down the testament for Robert, he replaced "... my son Joffrey Baratheon..." by "...my rightful heir..." It was shown during a close-up.

This is one of my favourite episodes in the show. Little finger at the end is pure Machiavellian.

I empathize with you and your allergies, Joe; I suffered when I was younger, but now that I'm older they don't affect me much. So give it about thirty years and you might grow out of them. When GOT was first shown, I watched only the first few episodes and then the final season (which I liked). So this is all new to me, and I'm loving it. This episode especially got me hooked. The story here generally reflects some of what was going on in the beginning of the Wars of the Roses between the House of Lancaster and the House of York in 1455, so it's fun to see a fictionalized version of those conflicts. (The GOT stories don't follow the historical events closely, but they use the background as a starting point.) The writing and acting is of course superb, and the set design and costuming are a sight to behold. I'm relieved that they have the Jon and Sam story, because they are literally the only two characters who smile and laugh. We need some light-heartedness amongst all the angst. I must admit, this was quite a new experience, watching you watching sex, but I guess we should get used to it; there's much more ahead. And thanks for all your comments, quips, and questions throughout the reaction. It does feel like I'm sitting here watching this with a friend, even though he's trapped in his basement, staring at his laptop. At least the roommate has been silenced!

it's definitely fair to trust the showrunners at this point - and for a while yet to come. even as someone who did NOT love the final season, i can say it wasn't all bad. and i think it plays better for people who get to watch straight through, like you will.

You asked if Tywin was skinning a real elk -- he was skinning a stag. And yes, he really did skin one for the scene. I definitely recommend a second viewing on a nice TV setup. Some of the later episodes are pretty epic, after the first season when they have a bigger budget. RIP, Bobby B.

Yeah at this point I would say Cersei is the worst. Joffrey is awful but that’s how she raised him. Vesereys was awful but he spent his whole life hearing how his kingdom was stolen. Whether Cersei or her father is worse time will tell.

Why I love Ned Stark and I think so many others do is that he *is* tragically flawed to the point where he would not make a good king. This episode shows us that when it comes right down to it, he is not able to put the good of the realm over personal honor and decorum. He's a good man, but just as Robert did not put enough consideration into the justification of his actions, Ned puts a little too much, thereby losing what power he has and endangering the whole of the kingdoms.

Most of the Lannisters are pretty horrible. The culture of that family is hopelessly dysfunctional. But as you know, there are worse things out there. At least the Lannisters are human…

Thank you! We'll start calling GOT on Tuesdays "Trapped in the Basement." Yeah I'm kinda awkward with sex scenes. Not so much that I don't like them but watching them with other people is weird for me lol.

I really hope so. I'm gunna form my own opinion. I have heard everything from this show is amazing to it's down right god awful. I love this first season so far and I just know that it gets better.

Bobby B out. It looked so realistic, no way they coulda faked that lol. I've got a pretty sweet TV upstairs. I might just do a rewatch on it after I finish the episode. Have to be fresh for the next week anyways.
