Now, when you hear someone say, "That must be Nigel with the Brie!", you'll get the reference. It'll happen, just wait. 😁

SO glad you enjoyed this one!! gets me excited for potential future romcoms <33

the prom band was save ferris. the band playing on the roof (whose lead singer joined save ferris on stage and was playing the skunk club) was letters to cleo. both real bands. and if you didn't watch the credits bloopers, worth going back. 🙂

sorry. and julia stiles recently (within the last couple years) showed up on snl's weekend update to perform her dance from save the last dance. i would link it, but you should see the movie first. (don't expect it to be as good as this one - it's not.)

Tyler Mckenzie

if you continued watching there are bloopers at the end of the movie

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I swear those kids go to Hogwarts and not a regular High School. That scene where Julia Stiles read the 10 things poem was done in one take. She also wasn't meant to cry but they kept it in, such a great scene. The casting is amazing from Patrick, Katerina and Cameron right down to the dad, the teacher and Allison Janney as Ms Perky. Also, agree about the soundtrack it's a 90s banger.

Larry Miller (the dad) steals scenes in every thing he does. So underrated. Great stand up too. Saw him open for Jerry Seinfeld a few years back.

Cristy

And he always popped up in Garry Marshall movies too like Pretty Woman and Valentine's Day which I loved.

Here's one of my favorite Larry Miller bits from many years ago: youtube.com/watch?v=zFZVhT4Q55g I don't recall if "Notting Hill" was on your romcom list, but I'd like to suggest it for the next poll. It's one of the few romcoms that I can enjoy on repeated viewings.

The most recent thing I saw Julia Stiles in was Orphan: First Kill, which if you're not into horror might not be your thing, but it's so deliciously campy and I LOVE IT. And she's fantastic in it (again, your mileage may vary if you're not a horror fan).

i was excited to see her in hustlers (2019).

i'll offer my thoughts on this later from a computer with a keyboard. i've tapped out a response on my phone thrice, only for patreon to refresh and disappear it before i could post each time. too annoyed to do it now. 😉

Larisa Oleynik who portrays Bianca was on Mad Men as Ken’s wife. Also starred on the 90’s Nickelodeon teen sci-fi show Alex Mack. Two other suggestions in the romantic comedy movie area, A Knight’s Tale and Wimbledon.

Each time you guys call out another guy for their douchbagery, it makes me feel like there might still be good guys out there.

This might not be a typical "rom-com" but sort of fits and is one of my favorite movies, "About a Boy" with Hugh Grant, based off a Nick Hornby book.

JVTrickypants

Yeah, Heath Ledger wasn't always my favorite, but he was NEVER afraid to take risks.

JVTrickypants

Also, Joseph Gordon Levitt has been amazing since 3rd Rock From the Sun.

JVTrickypants

Another great Joseph Gordon Levitt movie that's a neo-noir film called Brick and it's pretty awesome....one of the great (IMO) Rian Johnson's first movies.

JVTrickypants

In case it hasn’t been said - the band was No Doubt with Gwen Stefani.

Also glad you liked it, and there were some great performances in it and the writing was pretty well done. Of course the absolute legend that is Larry Miller who steals absolutely every scene is worth the price of admission on his own. I like that his character was not just the "overprotective father," but that it was mostly because he was an obstetrician, and also extra worried/scared by his wife leaving. Made him a more rounded character than just the "bring a boy home and I'll be cleaning my guns on the coffee table" trope.

In case you've missed it, there's bloopers after the credit song at the end.
