Wow, I've watched this show multiple times and this is the first time I've noticed that Annyong is experiencing PTSD in the crowd during GOB's magic show. (As the fireworks/explosions go off.) Very dark! But man, the layers of jokes this show packs in is really unreal.

Not sure if you caught this but "friend of Dorothy" was old code/slang for a gay man. The disappearing boat trick reminded me of another joke involving David Copperfield in season 2 of Bojack Horseman, another Will Arnett show. It's one of the darkest, funniest jokes I've ever seen on TV and I won't spoil it here.

Youth Oriented Music Television was my favorite channel when I was growing up. My favorite show aside from GOB's magic shows was Strangers Have Unnecessary Fights While Living In a House Together.

Liza Minnelli is the daughter of Judy Garland who played Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, so all the jokes about Dorothy have an inbuilt metatextual edge to them.

Michael telling George Michael "no you don't" when he wanted to go to the magic show is absolutely a Lucille move.

One of the most important lessons this episode teaches is that if someone threatens you, you need to scream their full name and say they are threatening you, then take off your top.

I did NOT know Liza Minelli was Judy Garland's daughter so that adds one more layer to this already multilayered joke about Tobias being a "friend of Dorothy". I love this show so much.

Don’t know if anyone mention that the news anchor John Beard was a real anchor in California and I believe the news aired after Arrested Development, so he delivered the fake news and the real news back to back.
