Weird Magic

Originally airing on March 28, 2017, ""What's the Matter with Kansas?"" is Episode 4 of Season 5 of The Americans. It is the 56th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 7.6, placing it as the #12 ranked episode of this season and #56 out of all the episodes shown so far. Yeah - I'll say it - The Americans is a top 5 Series for me overall - but S5 is such a slog. I was hoping I remembered it wrong, and then when I saw the ratings for the episodes I was hoping I was still wrong, but nope. I think the pacing is just too slow - even for this show. Again my opinion, but it doesn't pick up at all for a couple episodes yet. I also don't think S5 and S6 are at all one season even though Kevin keeps leaning on that crutch (Joe - please fix him :)). S5 is below average and S6 is possibly the best season of any series ever. Sorry - felt like it was the only thing I could say about this one, especially since it's the 2nd worst IMDB rated episode of the series. #SorryKansas!

Oh yeah - I also think there was maybe a misconception of what happened in Season 4 and now in 5? P&E were trying to learn what the US was doing with those diseases so the USSR would be capable of combatting them, not necessarily for arming weapons. They were playing defense. Same thing with these pests - they are trying to stop the US from using them against the USSR/world. I'm not sure why you're not rooting for them in either case, to be fair. Yeah, they have to kill a person or two for the greater good - but I've always looked at their jobs (for the most part - not every time) as looking out for the greater good and giving us a USSR perspective on the cold war.

I mean just so many lives they've destroyed. The body count is adding up. I get it, we've seen BB and Kevin is doing The Sopranos, just can be hard to stomach sometimes.
