this movie has such a special place in my heart. i shared it with my mom last year and she loves classic films and she loved this one so much which was surprising to me but she was comparing it a lot to her old favorites and it was just really touching getting to see her enjoy this one so much

Is there any chance you'd consider reacting to the Emma movie? Since one of you hasn't seen it, it could be really cool and you could compare it to Clueless a bit. Just asking since it's my comfort movie. I know you have polls and stuff and it would take quite a while to get to it, but it would be so awesome

this is 100% based on Emma. some of the names are even the same - Elton (the guy who doesn't get consent) is based on the priest in the book - Mr Elton. it is my second favourite Emma adaptation after the BBC short series with Romola Garai and Jonny Lee Miller (who, just like Paul Rudd, doesn't seem to age and hasn't significantly changed since then). If you decide to do an Emma reaction, I would watch any apart from the newest one. btw, in the book Claire and Josh aren't kind-of-step-siblings, they are siblings in law - their respective siblings (Claire's older sister and Josh' younger brother) married each other. as you might imagine, this means that there is a significant age gap between Claire and Josh - about 14 years, I think (23 to 37, I think). so there is this weird tension/dynamic between them that is almost paternal at times. in the movie, they significantly reduced the age gap but it is still not small, so that it is faithful to the book.

Oh that is interesting. I really want to watch or read the original source material then. I love how they adapted this. Really fun.

which movie are you voting for? the newest one is weird, as far as I have heard, and will probably not be my cup of tea. have you seen the other adaptations? how would you rank them?

I saw both the recent one and the one from the 90s and I actually really really liked the recent one. I'm not sure what is meant by "weird", I guess it's more light hearted then the recent pride and prejudice adaptation, but that's why I liked it, so idk
