The Deer Hunters

The Inedible Mattman!

Oh man, this dropped at the best time. I'm home from work, just ate dinner, ready for that cozy reaction to the quintessential comfort show, Gilmore Girls. :) Thanks guys, I needed this.

Tristan has all the charm of a date rapist.

Ah, but now we have to wait another week for the next one. The struggle is Sisyphean.

It’s been quite a while, and I’ve only watched this once, so I *thought* the “hit by a deer” thing was what derailed their FIRST arrival at Chilton — was so surprised that it came later! I like the Max Medina character, and Scott Cohen is an actor I’ve only seen in 2 things but I enjoy him immensely. We continue to slowly flesh out Stars Hollow’s band of quirky, small-town weirdos. Watch for more of Sean Gunn . . .

The best thing I can say about Tristan is that at least his tenure on the show is short!

My Monday nights are perfect now: get home from work, make dinner, and watch The West Wing and Gilmore Girls with you guys. Thanks for creating more comfort in my life! (And the cat on the lap contributes to the overall comfort ambience.)

I get the issue with Melissa McCarthy's character, it's been all over the place in the first three episodes. A brilliant chef that's a safety liability in the kitchen makes no sense, and worse, the slapstick just wasn't funny. On the plus side, we know ASP and McCarthy are masters of their art, so hopefully it'll settle down, and indeed her character had a bit better balance in this episode.

Like any show, Gilmore Girls needed its first episodes to do some exposition, to establish key characters, and to find some footing. From here on out, more and more the town of Stars Hollow and the hilarious people who inhabit it comes more and more to the forefront of the show and an already very good show just takes off like a rocket. Specifically -- you're about to meet (actually you've already kind of met) one of the greatest comedic side characters in television history.

This reminds me of the time my mom told off my high school vice principal.

I love your reactions to this show! Sookie is a quirky character and her quirkiness can sometimes be a bit much and can even cause issues down the road, but she will definitely grow on you, they do tone it down a little bit, and there are other characters who will surely annoy you more who you have not met, yet. And yes, it was definitely great to see Lorelai go off on Headmaster Charleston and Rory to go off on Paris (who, I hesitate to tell you this early on, is one of the best characters in the entire series and can't wait for you to get into the full extent and complexity of her relationship with Rory).

No, I was bracing for my mom to go a step too far and totally lose it. It just made things awkward for me. The back story is that at my all girls Catholic high school, if you were absent, a parent had to call into the office and the next day you were back, you had to bring a note signed by a parent. My mom was working two jobs and going to night school and she came home after I went to sleep, so I never got her to sign the note. In the morning we were just rushed to get out the door and I forgot. When my homeroom teacher asked me for the note, I said, I’m so sorry I totally forgot, I’ll make sure to bring it tomorrow. She said she’d have to give me a demerit. I said, ok. Half the class gasped. The teacher was so pissed that she didn’t get a rise out of me. She said, excuse me?! I calmly said, “rules are rules, if you have to give me a demerit, so be it.” The class started whispering , Joy, you never get in trouble, you’re just going to accept this? I said, “you have to get 3 demerits to get a detention and each quarter they start over, this week is the end of the quarter, it’s fine.” That just pissed the teacher off so much, she went off on me and screamed at me like a maniac. I told my mom what happened and she signed a stack of blank absent/tardy forms and I kept them in my locker for the rest of high school. She also drove me to school the next day and marched into the VP’s office and gave her a mouthful about how the teachers under her discipline the students. At graduation I got a good conduct award, because I never had a detention.

Rory is freaking out throughout this episode, but Louise and Madeline are not exactly bright and do fine.

James B.

I know who you're thinking of, but with all due respect, the best in TV history is Joxer the Mighty.

I can already tell we're headed to very special places with these characters. I seriously can't get enough

That’s a Shakespearean sonnet Paris was (psychotically) reciting. On a Jane Austen note, I think I can remember either Kate Winslet or Alan Rickman reciting the same one in the Sense and Sensibility film . . .

Watched this series for the first time when I was 16, same age as Rory, and now I am 35, a little older the Lorelai. First time, I think I didn't really consider the school beyond it being a setting for stuff to happen but now, as a university teacher, I just keep thinking, 'Well, that's a terrible approach to learning; there's no way a school like that would adequately prepare young people for university' :P.

Youtalkingtome

Right? Chilton really sucks. I love that this show has been in your life this long. You can really tell it's something special.
