I think it's a very good point that after a while, you don't know who to root for anymore. In season 1 things are fairly clear, the Starks are the good guys and the Lannisters are the bad guys ; but by now it's all gone blurry, and every faction has characters you want to see succeed. That's the tragedy of it - you know no matter what, someone you care about is not gonna make it. But that's what makes it a riveting watch as well !

Just FYI, I was having trouble finding episode 7 and found it tagged as a youtube edit. Lucky me, I get to catch up on two episodes 😁

No problem! I'm really enjoying rewatching this series with your perspective being outside all the insane hype that surrounded it at the time it aired. I found it became less about which team I supported and more about which individuals I cared most about on their journey, especially as they face their own flaws and grow as people. The richness of the characters is very special. Hoping you might consider a double episode next week for the last two episodes!

"That's a lot of layers" 😅

Am I the only one who's bothered by that high pitched wheezing sound in the background? It's driving me insane. However I'm glad to see how invested you're in all the different storylines. I'm very anxious to see your reaction for the next two episodes to wrap up the season!

I also hear that — it necessitates lowering the volume until I can’t hear it, which puts his actual voice volume juuuuust barely at a good level for me. But yeah, I absolutely hear it too.

I found that my own sweet spot was creating my OWN “teams”, made up of characters I liked who had similar struggles. (E.g “Team Boss Bitch”, “Team Bastard”.) Of course, I then had to modify membership over time when people took a heel turn, or betrayed the team principles. (e.g Theon and Tyrion both started on Team Bastard because they’re treated that way by others — but by this point I had, of course, had to boot Theon. With prejudice. On multiple counts. Sansa wasn’t on Team Boss Bitch until she contemplated pushing Joffrey off that wall, and then started looking out for herself against the Lannisters.) Not saying it wasn’t messy, but it was fun to almost treat it like a fantasy sports league.

The first time I read this part of the second book I 100% thought Bran and Rickon were dead. Doesn't make Theon any less of a monster that he killed some other random kids, of course.

“Will this cause a problem with Walder Frey?” Oh, my sweet summer child Joe.

Treating this show like a fantasy league is hilarious and makes total sense! Glad you guys are enjoying me watch this. It's very challenging to pick a side and it's so well done!

Yeah, he's still the absolute worst! Glad that the boys are alive though. Can't wait to see Theon stopped.

I'm just catching up on three episodes, what a freaking season. Rose Leslie is outstanding from the first minute. The look on her face is equal parts fear and defiance. And she's such a great foil for Kit. The Arya and Tywin scenes are so great, so full of dramatic irony and great dialogue. Kinda makes you wonder if Ned and Bobby B were still alive, and Tywin had met Arya on good terms. Theon... is the absolute worst. He's flailing about trying to prove to everyone how great he is because he needs to prove it to himself. He hates himself, and he hurts everyone who ever mattered to him because of it, and hates himself even more. Something this show has in spades that House of the Dragon is lacking, is the wonderful pairings between characters. Arya and Tywin, Ned and Robert, Jon and Sam, Jon and Ygritte, Tyrion and Bronn... you get the idea. These little moments shared between characters give so much life to the story, it's more than just terrible things happening to strangers, it feels like they're real people because we feel like we're sitting there with them, getting to know them. That's why we can feel so conflicted about who we want to win.

I love that observation. The pairings are fantastic. I look forward to those scenes more than any action sequence. I just love seeing what everyone is up to and how far they go. Arya meeting Tywin in another life. Can't get that out of my head. He could have been a mentor of sorts.
