Excited by the news that you'll be watching Downton Abbey at some point. There's very few reactions to it, and it's one I'd love to see your takes on. I appreciate how unusual a lot of your reactions are. You don't just do the same thing as every other channel. You do a nice, interesting mix of choices.

Alex Lee

Oh man, it's 10pm here in the UK, but let's do this!

Jordan Steele

A few notes on the early part of the film. The mirror’s origin was completely left out of the films, which was a major oversight. It was first revealed in the books in Order of the Phoenix as something Sirius had given Harry so they could communicate. Harry refused to open it to protect him but after Sirius died he found the shards of it in his trunk. He carried one shard from then on. B. There were supposed to be 6 horcruxes because Voldemort wanted to split his soul in 7 - 6 in horcruxes and one in himself. They were the diary, the ring, Slytherin’s locket, Hufflepuff’s cup, Ravenclaw’s diadem, and Nagini the snake. Of course then there was the extra accidental one…. C. While never stated definitively in the movie, the book makes clear that Harry’s cloak is indeed one of the Hallows.

BobBro

Few things, harry's cloak IS the cloak from the story. Movie doesnt explain it though. Harry is a descendant of one of the peverell brothers, the one that gave his son the cloak. Thats why dumbledore gave it to him in the first movie, james had given it to albus so albus could investigate it. Also, Voldy was meant to make 6 horcruxes, so his soul was divided in 7 pieces, the most powerfull magical number. But because of harry being the 7th horcrux his plan failed and it got divided in 8 pieces. Hope that clears some stuff up

- Love that Hedwig has joined your set! - Ralph Fiennes was nominated twice for an Oscar back in the 90s -- once for Schindler's List and once for The English Patient. - Snape was such a huge puzzle in the lead up to the last book. I found this pic I took of a marketing standee in a bookstore a few months before the release that sums it up nicely -- https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Harry-Potter/i-PVk6Dhj/1/KPpSSBhTvG3zf4XJ5ZspFnjdtjrpqML7xv5p76HDs/X5/Digital%20Camera-X5.jpg

Downton Abbey *squeals excitedly* I would love that!!!! Such an amazing show with wonderful characters.

Wow, this has been a journey. I've been reluctant to revisit these movies since R*wling...well, y'know. But this story was a HUGE part of my path to adulthood and it's been wonderful to see it again. I'll echo what other comments have said - the mirror is better explained in the books, and quite frankly it's so underutilised in the movie I'm surprised they bothered putting it in. To me, that is wasted screentime that could have gone to more of Neville being a badass! And, one last time, I'm going to gush about Daniel Radcliffe. He may have been a bit stiff in the first couple of movies, but he proved himself over and over again in the subsequent movies. I've followed his career quite closely for the last few years and I can safely say he's one of my favourite actors. I do hope you react to (or watch on your own time) some of the more recent stuff he's done - Miracle Workers is my personal fave!

nj

snape was still a dick. ultimately on the side of good, but a dick nevertheless.

Alex Lee

It's crazy how quickly we have reached the end of this journey. And it's so sad how many of the cast we have lost. Both Dumbledores, Hagrid, McGonagle, Snape, Uncle Vernon, Barty Crouch, Ollivander, Cornelius Fudge, Narcissa Malfoy, the Sorting Hat and quite a few actors in smaller roles.

BobBro

You guys should really watch the anniversary thing.

Joy M

I’m holding off on rewatching Downton until Kevin and Joe are ready

Maxxie

I honestly cannot wait. This is such thrilling news. There are not that many shows that have stayed so dear to my heart for so long. And what a fitting homage to Maggie Smith as well.

Tom Walsh

There are a few choices in this movie that I don't like, but I can see why they were made. I know you plan on reading the books so I won't go into detail but Voldemort's death is handled differently and I think the more 'cinematic' way its presented here detracts from it ultimately. Also Harry does perform some magic with the Elder wand at the end of the book which for some reason they decided not to include, which I find a bit strange. Overall the movies, while obviously not being able to be as extensive as the books, do a good job I think, and the things like the set designs and casting is mostly great.

Kasra Salehi

The 20th year anniversary is on HBO and is a must to react too. They go through each individual movie with the actors and the directions. Would love to see a reaction to it!

Kasra Salehi

Also, the 7th book dives a hell of a lot into dumbledores past and his reputation (and how it definitely wasn’t pretty). The movies don’t really dive into it but he’s a complicated and definitely controversial character

Jeff

This has been so much fun being a part of your Harry Potter journey. As others have said (and I mentioned before), I'd love to see you react to the anniversary special. And I'll be thrilled if you decide to watch "Downton Abbey"! Maggie Smith shines throughout the whole series (and the two films), and I think you'll find it to be very addicting.

Maxxie

Beyond the factual omissions and the like, I think the biggest difference between the movies and the books is Harry Potter himself. In the movies, he's the typical hero, a good guy through and through. In the books, there's a darker side to him - he has a lot of anger boiling inside, violent urges, even a penchant for cruelty at times. This gives a lot more weight to the parallels between him and Voldemort throughout the whole series - like when he was worried that he's more Slytherin than Gryffindor, or when he confessed to Sirius that he's terrified of "becoming more like Voldemort". Even in this movie, the ghost Helena saying he "reminds [her] of him a bit" is not just a throwaway line. So when it is finally revealed that Harry carries part of Voldemort's soul inside him, it's a lot more impactful, because it's not just a piece of magical shrapnel inside him - it really is a part of who he is. And it gives extreme weight to what Dumbledore told him all the way back in second year - at the end of the day, it is our choices that determine who we are.

Kasra Salehi

Yup - important to remeber that Snape was still a death eater at first, and didn’t truly care for Harry either. He just loved Lily. Definitely not black and white

TouchTheGarlic

Fun fact: she-who-must-not-be-named (Rowling) actually pulled Alan Rickman aside as they were beginning work on the first movie and told him all about Snape's secret motivation, so that he would be able to play that in his scenes. He was the only other person in the world who knew, as the last couple books had not yet been published. Not even the director of the film was told. Also, the dead girl being eaten by the werewolf in the chaos montage who you didn't recognize was Lavender Brown, Ron's clingy girlfriend from Half-Blood Prince.

Miguel Lugo

I knew he would be a Ravenclaw lmao. I called that when I first suggested they do the houses quiz like 5 movies ago.

dys

The ending epilogue was super divisive, both in the book and the movie. Mostly for the idea that 20 years later everyone is still together with and married to the last person they dated in wizard highschool. Snape's redemption arc still doesn't feel totally earned. You guys were on the "Snape is iredeemably evil" train a bit earlier than I think the movies meant you to, since even in the early scenes of Half-Blood Prince you took Snape working with the Death Eaters as 100% confirmation he was on their side when we were supposed to understand he was a double-agent with some ambiguity on his actual loyalty. But even with what we learn from his memories, Snape was still this world's equivalent of a *Nazi*. If we translate that metaphor into what it's supposed to represent in the real world, Snape was a Nazi of half-Jewish ancestry (half-blood prince) who made an exception for his Jewish (aka muggleborn) best friend Lily, and only turned against the Nazis because they killed his friend, not for any other moral reason. And then for the rest of his adult life he used his position of power as a teacher to verbally abuse children. I definitely didn't notice reading the books or watching the movies at first so not surprising you guys didn't either, but what are the goblins supposed to represent? Little goblins with long noses who run the banks and are extremely possessive of wealth, remind you of any real-world stereotypes? I can't speak for what biases Rowling may or may not have but I'm half-Jewish on my dad's side and I can't help feeling uncomfortable with that now. I love these books (and about half of the movies) so much, I wish I didn't have to wrestle with Rowling's personal views like that. If it were just uncomfortable metaphors in her books I wouldn't even care much, but she actively directs real money and attention to harmful causes.

Balazs Foldes

Thank you very much for your Harry Potter reaction series. It was great revisiting the movies with you. If you guys go through the books, maybe you could consider some kind of reaction or discussion or something about them, although I do guess any kind of book reactions, with the lack of cinematic material behind, would be much more difficult to present in video format, and possibly attract smaller attention. But with the two of you, discussing a book after reading it, even in like 10 minutes, could be fun. Anyway, just an idea. P.s. just for the record, the last sound at the end of my name Balázs is pronounced like the S in viSion, not like a z. Just to nitpick. ;)

Devon Cooper

Can you tell me which streaming platform you are using for this?😊

Dylan Larsen

This movie basically marked the end of my childhood, 18 just graduated highschool. I really do comeback to these movies at least once a year and im overwhelmed with nostalgia. I had a fantastic time rewatching these with you two. I really hope you guys take the time the watch the 20th anniversary reunion on HBO as well. Its a Wonderful goodbye to the cast and series.

Sigurd Lillebo

Amazing reactions, thanks for the journey. Looking forward to more reactions to come!

Youtalkingtome

Love that you all are so passionate about that show. It's a big blindspot for us and would love to do it in the future!

Youtalkingtome

Thanks for clearing that up. I get that they had to cut stuff for time but those seem like big things to chop out!

Youtalkingtome

I thought Radcliffe was amazing! Such a talented actor. Would love to see him in a big movie again. We're so happy we could be here when you revisited them. This was an amazing experience and can honestly say, I loved every minute

Youtalkingtome

Oh my god. I had no idea the list was that long. This makes these movies even more special to me. RIP to all the amazing actors who were in these films.

Youtalkingtome

She does. We really didn't notice that parallel at all. Whether or not that is the intent I am not sure. In terms of the films, story, and just the world they built in these movies, I think they did a fantastic job. That being said, we are not on board with anything J.K. has said. Really sad to see a person create something so hopeful be so blind.

Youtalkingtome

So sorry about that. Monday it will be pronounced correctly. I know Kevin is planning on reviewing the books!

Peter

So now that you are finished with Harry Potter, when are you watching Guns Akimbo?

Devon Cooper

Thank you! I’ve been waiting for this one to drop! Also, you guys really should do the 20th anniversary special. It is so good.

Isabela Moreira

Getting to rewatch these with you was the best. I highly recommend watching the 20 year anniversary doc on Max, the behind the scenes are amazing. Thank you for another great reaction 💖

Michelle

Thank you so much for this great series! I've loved revisiting these movies with you and it's been really interesting to get a fresh perspective on them in lots of ways. Watching with the insights of people who are new to the movies, haven't read the books beforehand, and myself as an adult looking at them in a new way, but also remembering my overwhelming excitement as a late teen when the final book and movies were coming out. I hope you enjoy the books and all the rich details that didn't make the movies, as well as seeing the strengths of the movies that improved on the books.

dys

I have so much respect for how Radcliffe took his career after Harry Potter, he could have kept on playing the leading man but instead he took the most bonkers roles possible, including playing a literal corpse in Swiss Army Man (the movie the Daniels directed before Everything Everywhere All At Once). It's an insane movie I can't believe got greenlit and I love it.

Peter

They should definitely do Guns Akimbo, Swiss Army Man, Horns, Weird: The Al Yankovich Story, and The Woman in Black. The good Daniel Radcliffe movies. Radcliffe could be doing Netflix films designed to be watched as background noise while you browse on your phone, but instead he is doing the most bonkers movies ever. He is truly an actor.

Youtalkingtome

Hey thank you so much for your kind words. To get to experience these movies with people who love and care so much about the material, really enriches this for us.

Joy M

I was watching the PBS/BBC show All Creatures Great and Small and Neville is on it.

Danielle

Loved this journey with you guys! So sad to see it end. I have greatly enjoyed seeing the series through your eyes. The books are so rich and immersive and I'm excited that you get to experience them for the first time. I reread them every few years and they never disappoint. A few things during the movie that I made a note to clarify: I really enjoyed that you mostly picked up on the part where Voldy kills the part of himself that lives in Harry thus not Harry himself and that Narcissa lied about Harry being dead and thus saved him so that she could get to Draco. That is a second time that Harry is saved by a mother's love. Dumbledore's backstory is complicated and explored more in the last book. There were many, many people who revered Dumbledore but as with all figures who loom large in their society, you are right that some other did not like him, there are many who can't wait to bring them down a peg due to follies in their youth. Dumbledore is no different. He even explains that his mistakes during his youth are why he doesn't trust himself to be Minister of Magic. I won't say anymore but it was a great read when you get there. Slytherin's common room and dorms are in the dungeons so yes, while in the movie it seems dramatic and like a punishment after Pansy tried to capture Harry, it was basically McGonagall just sending them to their rooms lol. One thing you guys said - why would anyone send their kids to Hogwarts if it had become so dark - is explained in the books but the Death Eaters made school compulsory so they could weed out the kid's by magical blood and teach them what they wanted. So when the trio were snatched that's why they said they were half-blood because all muggle-born and some half-bloods would be on the run. I'm one of those majority of people who hated the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort in the movies because of how fundamentally different it was in the books but I get that it was more cinematically exciting. I wonder what you think when you get to the end. I hope you delight in the books as much as the millions of other HP fans and I look forward to your Fantastic Beasts reactions.

It’s based on a book series as well (I haven’t read it). It’s about a veterinarian in the Yorkshire Dales of England who treats pets and farm animals. It is filmed in a village called Grassington. I visited a year ago. My cousin happens to live in that area. It’s so beautiful. It starts in the late 1930s on the cusp of WWII.
