Hello! As we approach Oscar nomination season, we thought it would be great to check out a category whose films sometimes weirdly fly a bit under the radar commercially. Please vote for as many as you'd like!

Watch Steel Magnolias & you'll get 3 of those ladies in one movie! (Shirley MacLaine, Sally Field, & Julia Roberts)

I’m not sure your hearts will survive Room considering how empathetic you are - it’s fantastically good though!

Cosmic Slice

Why did you have to make this so hard? Coal Miner's Daughter, Moonstruck, Places in the Heart and On Golden Pond are all immensely good movies.

DelGuy03

I hate to be Spelling Police, but if the idea is to honor these actresses... it's KathArine Hepburn, Olivia Colman, and Shirley MacLaine. Sorry!

Youtalkingtome

I was stage manager on Steel Magnolias on stage in college, but have never seen the movie (it...wasn't a great stage production).

Youtalkingtome

Hi! I did this quickly and made typos in some of the names. Sorry! That's embarrassing!

Roland Cooke

I've only seen about half of these. Room is magnificent, stunning performance by Brie Larson. The Favourite is a complete trip, with Olivia Colman's comedic talents being well-matched by Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz (with a shout-out to the epic contribution from Nicholas Hoult) Erin Brockovich is worth it just to hear America's Sweetheart swearing like a sailor. :D I saw Terms of Endearment when it came out. I remember I enjoyed it, but it hasn't stuck with me like other movies of its time. Likewise for On Golden Pond. My vote is for The Coal Miner's Daughter since I'm not sure I have ever heard of it, and definitely haven't seen it. Sissy Spacek is so good in everything I've seen her in - which admittedly isn't much, but I'd love to see something she did soon after her (breakout?) performance in Carrie.

Youtalkingtome

I need to watch it after so much backlash against Larson for her Marvel work (if her character or films aren't your thing, that's fair, but angry internet dudes saying she can't act is just silly).

Sissy Spacek in Coal Miner’s Daughter was amazing. I also love the small part she had in The Help.

DelGuy03

Hey at least you didn't spell Sally's surname as "Fields", as so many people do with that and similar names.

Chris

Lots of great choices. I’m surprised that Terms of Endearment doesn’t have more votes. Excellent movie.

Stephanie Bedworth

Omg, I would love to see you guys react to On Golden Pond. Such a good movie and as far as I can tell, no one has ever done it, which is a crying shame. From the looks of it, it's probably a long shot to win this poll but hopefully you two will keep it in mind for the future.

D Gyre

Wow, for the firs time I have almost no opinion on what to watch and I've only seen two of these at all. My only comment is, when in doubt, you can never go wrong with Sally Field.

Chris H.

I absolutely ADORE The Favourite. It's such a wickedly subversive thing. And I love that Tony McNamara took that wickedly sharp (maybe vicious) sense of humor to his Hulu series about Catherine The Great, which is kinda one of my favorite TV things in years.

Youtalkingtome

Honestly, anything we put on polls is because we absolutely want to watch it, so it is definitely a possibility down the road regardless.

Weird Magic

I know The Crown on your list of shows "to do" but I voted for The Favourite even though I haven't seen it because it is Olivia Colman

JVTrickypants

My vote isn't on the list, but I absolutely can not vote for anybody except Charlize Theron for her total transformation in all ways (physical, performance accuracy, believability) in the movie Monster about the serial killer Aileen Wuornos.

Youtalkingtome

I haven't seen Monster. I almost put it on the list, but I wanted a diverse range of time periods (among films we haven't seen).

Youtalkingtome

When I was looking at past Best Actress winning films (including several I had not heard of), Tommy Lee Jones co-starred in more than one of them.
