Weird Magic

I read very few books (very few), but I do read (listen to) Vince Flynn and John Grisham so this is one of the few things I've read and watched. Great choice!

Jonathan

I agree, great movie this was my first time watching this. One of the few Grisham movies I hadn’t gotten around to.

Mary Kay Place (Dot Black in the movie) has a recurring role in the West Wing as well, she plays Surgeon General Millicent Griffith in Season 2, and future episode(s) still to come. Great character actor with a pretty good filmography in TV and Movies.

Jonathan

After watching these last few court movies with you I think the Good Wife should be a series for your list sometime in the future. It has the complexity of a series like Mad Men with another great cast, but it also gives you a canvas to explore so many topics.

I always felt like Bruiser comes through in the end in part because he loves the underdog and in part because he hates Drummond. They’re both crooks, but Drummond has the country club sheen of legitimacy and Bruiser doesn’t. If I were Bruiser, that would piss me off.

The movie they were watching was a 1992 French film called "The Lover." I assume it was included because it's about an illicit affair, which mirrors the two of them sneaking around in order to meet. When you were talking about Mickey Rourke I was reminded of the 1982 film "Diner". Have you both seen it?

Jeff

I loved "The Good Wife"! It was so well-written, and the number of great actors that appeared over seven seasons was incredible. It would be quite a commitment to react to, just like "The West Wing" and "Mad Men", but I think it might be worth it. It's a lot of lawyers and politicians doing questionable things, but very nuanced and unpredictable.

Oh for sure! I know that's probably right. I just wanna hope that there is some good in that guy. I don't know why I loved him so much lol

I have never seen Diner. I love Mickey especially when he was younger and I've always wanted to check that one out

It’s Mickey Rourke, man. Talk about an underachiever. Wild charisma. Dude was the logical successor to Brando and he threw it away. He’s just effortlessly great in this. This was one of his many comebacks. He had another one a few years later in a movie Sean Penn directed called The Pledge, where he played a grieving father and just absolutely ripped the movie out of Jack Nicholson’s hands for five minutes. If you can go toe to toe with Jack and walk away the winner, that’s some serious talent.

Jeff

It's definitely worth seeing. If neither of you have seen it, I might select it for a pick-it-and-watch-it.

When Rudy makes Keeley read the Medical Advisory Board's statement on bone marrow treatment, he deliberately knocks the microphone away a little so that he can get Keeley to read it again, having learned his lesson from the previous occasion of getting hit with an objection for being repetitious. 🙂

Diner seems like a movie made for Joe and Kevin. It’s an amazing ensemble cast.

Jeff

I just paid for it, so they'll be watching it soon!
