In terms of liking Emily, as a longtime fan of the show it’s hard at this point to separate Emily from Kelly Bishop. Like of course we like Emily, Emily is an icon! I always have uneasy feelings about Max because I feel like he doesn’t take no for an answer. Right from the beginning Lorelai said she was uncomfortable and he pushed it, she tries to end it and he pushes it. That can be seen as being romantic or he’s right that she’s interested or whatever (and honestly I feel like the writers do see it that way) but I don’t love it. I feel like it especially hasn’t aged super well.

I related to Max about the whole being on time thing. Literally this weekend we were doing a tour and I said that we needed to leave at a specific time, which the other person took as when she needed to get ready to leave. So we were five minutes late, rather than ten minutes early. Very frustrating.

The interesting thing about Melissa McCarthy in this role is that she has never really played this kind of character since, bubbly and effervescent. She always plays more severe or sad sack characters now. But she is so good in the role.

Ricky Martin is pretty great in Palm Royale. I don't think I'd seen him act in anything else (does he have any other significant acting credits?) and he hadn't been in the public eye much in years so I was blown away. Stacked cast overall, best performance I've seen from Kristen Wiig plus legends like Allison Janney and Laura Dern.

I agree he was pretty pushy. We don't read that the same in 2024 at all. He did feel bad at the end but was that only because he was caught? Am I reading too far into this??

Controversial opinion: Unfortunately I think her partner is the culprit for her continuously playing more demeaning roles, keeping her at a certain level of fame & fortune. People fell in love with her in this role, and her husband she met on this show is well aware of this. This happens with a lot of relationships, even, and probably especially, in Hollywood.

I know that Ricky Martin had been cast to play Gianni Versace's fiance in American Crime Story : The Assassination on Gianni Versace. If my memories are correct, he was praised for that role (I personnally have not seen it).

Yes, They did! Kelly Bishop and Sutton Foster, who was in A Year in the Life, were on Bunheads! Just a fun fact... Kelly Bishop's first name is actually Carol! Kelly was the name one of the other actors called her when she first started on Broadway. When she got her first on-screen role, they asked her what name to put in the credits, and she picked Kelly!

I've never seen Bunheads but I am absolutely here for this show! Plus the addition of Luke Kirby. I will absolutely be watching
