So, Tom Hanks has starred in some movies we haven't watched...(PS Who are some other performers we should feature in polls?)

Comments

Dr Ozzy

Should definitely do a Denzel poll

Onno Smits

Cloud Atlas is a "love it or hate it"-type of movie. I love it, but that may be because I read the book beforehand. It's schizophrenic from a narrative storytelling standpoint.

Ari.g

feels like y’all haven’t done an animated movie in a hot minute - would love to see a poll for it!! xx

Weird Magic

You've Got Mail > Sleepless in Seattle and I'll die on that sword....😁

Youtalkingtome

I mean, we just put up an animated movie yesterday, but it wasn't a family film, so I take your point. :) We will do another animated poll soon!

Ari.g

OooOo i didn’t even see that one!! thanks for the heads up, i’ll check it out 🫶

Roland Cooke

Yeah, the book is an AMAZING read, I don't think the movie does it justice, despite the best efforts of everyone involved.

Weird Magic

How about alternating between the three topics - Actor, Actress and Director? My suggestions: Actor=Morgan Freeman Actress= Jennifer Lawrence Director=Coen Brothers

Aude M

Omg, I love Tom Hanks. I have voted for Philadelphia because it's a "must" (and one of his finest performances) but if it's You've Got Mail or Sleepless In Seattle, I've got no objection (never seen the latter, though)

Heather

Philadelphia is such a beautiful and important film, but, if you’re in the mood for something fun, you can’t go wrong with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.

The Inedible Mattman!

Back in high school our drama department put on a stage play production of “the little flower shop around the corner”, which is the movie “You’ve got Mail” is based on. That was the reason my friends and I, after seeing the play, went out and rented the movie. I can say with all honesty … the movie was better lol Tom Hanks just MAKES a movie better.

Cristy

You've Got Mail is an absolute classic!

Youtalkingtome

I was stage manager once for a REALLY bad production of Steel Magnolias...yeah. Good actors make a big difference. :)

Lana Gorgeous

If you haven't seen in Captain Philips is awesome :)

Peggy G

Double Feature of Sleepless in Seattle & You've Got Mail!! They both have scenes that take place on/during Christmas, so you can use that as an excuse. 😉

rycolaa

Ben Stiller or perhaps Jackie Chan

Cosmic Slice

Geena Davis, Johnny Depp, John Candy, Steve Martin, Emma Thompson would all be great for polls

Kristi Govertsen

I second @Weird Magic’s idea of a rotation, and would add Genre to the list. My wishlist would be as follows: Actor: Steve Carrell Actress: Toni Collette Director: Wes Anderson Genre(s): Sci-fi and/or Runners Up (movies that have come in 2nd on your previous polls). With that said, please don’t abandon your Rom-Com exploration since Four Weddings and a Funeral and When Harry Met Sally are must-see-at-least-once-before-you-die movies.🙂 UPDATE: I just saw you posted a reaction to WHMS. Whoo-hoo!

Statmanjeff

Sleepless in Seattle is the best xxxxx & xxxxx xxxxx in movies. I'd say specifically what and why except you don't want spoilers. Road to Perdition is also excellent, and Mazes & Monsters was once one of my go-to movies. (You've Got Mail is forgettable, and Cloud Atlas, I must admit, is exceptional but too long.)

Allison O

You’ve Got Mail is one of my favorites and I hope it wins especially around the holidays, but Philadelphia is definitely a close second and well worth being on the channel!

MrRuss50

Philadelphia gets my vote here as the best movie on the list but an underrated fun Tom Hanks movie that never gets any love is The Terminal.

Triene (Katie)

You’ve got mail is based on an old movie and is really a nice romcom. There are things I love about sleepless, but overall not my favorite story wise.

HereBeMeghan

A lot of good classics on this poll! In addition to these, I highly recommend That Thing You Do! if you've never seen it. Tom Hanks has more of a supporting role, but it's his feature directing debut. It's also got the best earworm-y fake-band song, written by the late great Adam Schlesinger.

Mithroch

Mazes and Monsters gives me PTSD. As lifelong gamer, I remember the Satanic Panic all too well.

Youtalkingtome

I played D&D with neighborhood friends in elementary school, and there were teachers who CLEARLY thought we were devil worshippers. It was so weird.

Youtalkingtome

Jonathan is correct, we watched That Thing You Do! on the channel not terribly long ago if you want to watch.

Kristi Govertsen

💰💰💰 Alas, I live in a state (Hawaii) that doesn’t have access to any lotteries. The beaches and weather are perfection, but apparently any magical, billion-dollar lottery powers I possess are going to waste living here.🤣

Roland Cooke

Road To Perdition is great because it has Hanx playing against type.

CB

And if you do a directors poll, don't forget Spike Lee.

Milana

Philadelphia is winning so far and it’s well deserved, but You’ve Got Mail is definitely something to watch too! I’m also partial to Sleepless in Seattle because of one dialogue (and because Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks together are an absolute magic and we need as many movies with the two of them as possible)

fire12wife

Turner & Hooch (1989) is a HILARIOUS Tom Hanks movie!!! A detective must adopt a rambunctious dog in order to solve a murder. The dog is the only witness!

Holly Colclasure

You may have already seen it, but if you haven't, The Green Mile would be a good one to watch sometime.

dys

I voted Sleepless in Seattle mostly because Philadelphia, while great, just feels like a movie for a certain moment that is long past.
