The Watchers on the Wall

You should've predicted that kind of amazing episode... it's the #9 of the season (penultimate) ;-) S1E9 Baelor (Ned's beheading) S2E9 Blackwater S3E9 The Rains of Castamere (Red Wedding) and now S4E9 The Watchers on the Wall...

"I promise I will never die." Very Team America indeed. There was a lot of hate towards Olly in the fandom for killing Ygritte, probably just because she's a much more memorable character even if she's not on the 'good' side. Say what you will about Ser Alliser Thorne, he's an asshole and not a great commander, but he's no coward and is an experienced badass fighter. He's like an effective veteran sergeant who shouldn't have been in command but ended up there after all the officers died. Several characters' roles in this battle are changed around from the books. Alliser wasn't in command at this point, there was still another (much more likeable and reasonable) officer who outranked him who doesn't appear in the show. That guy died defending the gate rather than Grenn, and Pyp and Grenn actually survive.

Ser Alliser Thorne is a right bastard, but he's a decent battlefield leader, leading by example. Not a great strategic commander but needs must.

Neil Marshall really brings it, right? 😃

He may never have gotten a $200 million budget film like Joe is asking for, but watch The Descent to see what he can do on £3.5 million.

I've seen the trailer for that movie since I was in middle school. I am still too freaked out to watch it. Maybe I can watch it with you guys some day, but it genuinely looks scary

Alliser walked the walk. I'll give it to him. I don't hate Olly, I was more upset with Ygritte for killing Pyp. We lost so many great characters this episode

Man, I didn't even think about it. You're right, but then again every episode this season has been a banger.

I'm not the biggest horror fan, but I enjoyed The Descent, albeit definitely very scary / creepy. I'd maybe start with Dog Soldiers however, all round fun.

I LOVED getting to see inside Sams head a little more. “I’m not nothing anymore” hits me every time I hear it. Sam was a baby boy who found his own definition of manhood and we adore him for it. He isn’t the “man’s man” but he knows his duty and he keeps to it in spite of his fear.

He is amazing. I really hope nothing happens to him. He is so pure and just good. Love to see characters with good hearts on this show, but sadly they don't last.

The showing of good hearted people in contrast to all the evil is what makes it all so intriguing.

I'm glad you were able to feel a bit for Ygritte before she died. I understand the feeling that her killing specific people we like being "unforgivable." But... she's a Wildling. She's never met Sam. She's never met Pip. This is a war she's been conditioned to fight since she was born. It's difficult to hold these specific charges against her when thinking objectively.

Youtalkingtome

That's what makes this show so good. These characters weaving into one another. I've never seen storytelling quite like this. It's brilliant

I just wanted to say that this episode is not in the Games of Thrones's repertory (library ? file ?) !
