Buffy 1 2

If there's one thing in this episode I dislike it's how fast they move on from Jessie's death, He was Xander and Willow's friend, he was murdered, turned into a vampire, then died again in front of Xander and the next morning they're cracking jokes. I get the show wants to establish its tone and a somber ending remembering Jessie would not have worked with that goal in mind but then don't have a close friend die. It was not a good choice, Joss Whedon said he wanted to surprise the audience by killing someone who could be a major character but if his only reason to exist was to surprise the audience then he didn't need to exist at all in my opinion. I will also defend Cordelia a little bit. While she is without a doubt a mean girl and is especially cruel to Willow she also has an actual reason to dislike Buffy in the second half of the pilot. Buffy did assault her, slammed her against a wall, choked her and held a stake to her face for seemingly no reason. So her talking shit about Buffy is actually justified considering her lack of knowledge about the supernatural and Willow's weak "No, she's not" defense must almost feel like victim blaming to Cordelia.

That aspect of the show is where the camp really shines IMO. Like we are so far from reality it's just on to the next! I feel like we will come around on Cordelia, cause she's comically just a bully at this point
