Love those kitty purrs ❤️ This is such another great episode for getting out all the issues. Alllllll the issues. Everybody doesn’t behave the best all the time, but everyone’s behavior is so understandable.

Emptysea93

While there is definitely grey areas to the arguments this episode, I am still %100 on Luke’s side. While we know that Jess pulled this prank, and likely all the others listed, it is absolutely insane to hold a town meeting on whether or not to exile a troubled kid. Taylor’s problem is that he never truly tries to talk to Luke, every time Taylor is upset about something he literally just swings the door open and is having a hissy fit before Luke even can ask what happened. He always just yells at Luke, so of course Luke is just going to ignore him. If the town went to Lorelei, Sookie, heck, even amiss Patty, and had one of them calmly approach Luke to discuss the Jess situation Luke would have been pissed off, but receptive. All in all I feel like Taylor honestly deserves it, and if I was in Stars Hollow I would be pranking him every chance I got.

also Re: Mia, she is such a delight and it’s so painful to see Emily resent her so much. But at the same time I think Emily’s resent ment is envy that Mia is so close to Lorelei, and self hatred because Emily knows that she herself was the one of the main reasons Lorelei run away like that. I wish Emily could have teensy bit more grace for others, and herself.

Luíza Fernandes

Emily going to see Mia is a very vulnerable moment from her. "I wanted to meet the woman who helped raise my daughter" and asking for pictures, it's sweet and you can tell she felt really insecure. It's so frustrating to see both her and Richard be so harsh with Lorelai for things that happened 17+ years ago but you can tell how they're still hurting from it. Also, just a side note: starting in season 2, you can tell if the side characters are going to be on the episode by the intro. If milo ventimiglia shows up, jess is going to show up, and the same goes for paris, dean and kirk

Peter

Lorelai absolutely purposefully antagonizes Emily. In a way that is extremely intentional. She provokes in order elicit the reaction that will justify her already existent opinion of Emily.

Peter

This show was way early on hating Trump.

dys

Not quite as early as Back to the Future 2...

Peter

I quote "I heard he controls the weather and wrote the screenplay to Glitter" all the time.

Peter

Lorelai got anxious at the concept that she wouldn't have the Independence Inn forever and took it out on Sookie. She really is lucky that Sookie is a good friend because she pretty viciously attacked her.

Peter

Emily saying she doesn't know where Lorelai gets her harshness from is world class lack of self-awareness.

dys

But yeah this is almost as funny as Tracy calling out Bill Cosby on 30 Rock years before his crimes were widely known.

Oceanflower

honestly out of everyone that Jess targeted with stealing etc. Taylor is the only one who deserved it. he tramples all over everyone else's boundaries and treats them so badly.

Peter

Jess is, like Lorelai, deliberately provoking in order to elicit the response he expects. Also, Jess is obviously extremely intelligent and is just bored in Stars Hollow. And he isn't enthralled with its level of cutesie charm, for very obvious reasons given the situation he is coming from. Holding an entire town meeting about him is both completely bananas as well as essentially rewarding the behavior.

Peter

Yeah. The thing about Taylor is that he brings the exact same energy in this episode as he did in the Thanksgiving decorations episode. He doesn't try to have a conversation with Luke he tries to bowl him over.

dys

This town meeting feels like it's about to break out into singing "you got trouble, right here in River City" at any moment. I feel like just having a nice big framed photo of Rory would go just as far in cheering Richard up, but there is something to be said for a painted portrait. Only posed for a painted portrait once in my life. My folks had a close family friend who's a talented artist do a family portrait when my brothers and I were really little (we were NOT rich like Lorelai's folks). Sitting for that portrait is a formative memory for me not so much because of the painting process itself but because the artist made sure to get 5 year old me and my 4 year old brother first because we couldn't sit long before fidgeting, so we got to go watch a movie in another room while she finished painting my parents and my 1 year old brother who could just sleep... and the movie was The Brave Little Toaster with that one scene that scared the shit out of 5 year old me and sealed the whole evening into my memory.

dys

A lot of the time yes, you're right, but she's also often just trying to get Emily to openly say the snobby thing she really thinks.

Youtalkingtome

The painted photo is a bit much but I appreciate the gesture nonetheless. Never been in that situation before!

Youtalkingtome

That's a great catch. Love that they do the intros that way. She definitely is hurting from it. It's honestly really sad but the way she reacts to things, it's tough to see

Youtalkingtome

She could definitely stand to have more grace. I get it. It's a bold choice for the character and I love that they are staying true to her

Youtalkingtome

Taylor is absolutely a tough hang. We all know a Taylor in our lives. I think the fact that this wasn't the first time Jess has done something like this was the final straw. Exiling a kid is insane though

James B.

Jess is an emotional moron. He gets a pass because he's pretty. If he looked like Kirk, the GG community would be far less divided.

Sarah P

As someone on Team Jess, I have to agree — he is an emotional dumbass of the highest order.

Aude M

Ouch! In my case, nope : I see a troubled teenager, angry teenager as many teenagers are/were. But seeing him "help" Luke and trying to be nice to at least one person, reading literature, that means he's interesting and not all that bad. He "gets a pass" because there is hope for him that he could get better, that there's some good in him. I'd like to think that, pretty or not, I would have the same opinion about him.

I was sick all week and stuck in bed and somehow found this channel again on youtube after forgetting the name (I had subscribed previously for the schitts creek reactions). I was way overdue for a Gilmore Girls rewatch so I may have binged all your reactions in 3 days or so. It really made me fall in love with the show all over again. I finally get a lot of references I didn't as a teenager and I think being older makes me more sympathetic to characters like Jess who I didn't care for back then but who really is just a sad 17yo boy. I'm looking forward to the future reactions and will now go dive into the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reactions as well. Oh and speaking of vampires, if it hasn't been before, the Interview with the Vampire tv show needs to be on one of the polls. It's such a great show!

David En-Griffiths

This episode makes me think Jess is basically Luke if Luke didn't have the structure of the town community to force engagement.
