Do you remember the small bit part Ian McShane had on Season 3 of The West Wing, playing a Russian diplomat negotiating with Sam on an upcoming meeting of presidents? Guess it took America a while to realize just how good an actor this man is. Joe mentioned early here about Al maybe being the best ever. He was absolutely born to play this role and I cant imagine anyone else doing half as good a job as he does. He is on the T.V. character Mt. Rushmore and my others Gandolfini, Michael Kenneth Williams, Richard Schiff, and Jeremy Piven aren't really that close to his level, he's just that good. Free fking gratis. :)

It is always a great Deadwood episode when the canned fruit appears!

I still have to throw in Powers Booth's performance in the movie Frailty - Bill Paxton's directorial debut - but had me and my friend discussing the entire premise and what the movie meant for a couple of hours afterwards (and we weren't high lol).

Since you guys are giving so much love to Powers Boothe and Ian McShane, here's another bit of trivia for you. Powers Boothe was cast AS Al Swearengen when the show was being put together, however just before filming, Boothe got sick and couldn't take the part. Ian McShane auditioned and got the role. When Boothe was better, he was given the role of Cy Tolliver. The scene between the Doc and the reverend is one of my favorites of this season. That's one of the scenes that makes me say how Doc Cochran and the MVP of this season.

I also thought the hotel clerk looked familiar, and you're right, it's Zack Ward, who played Farkus in "A Christmas Story." The story about Bullock's wife being his brother's widow is one of the few times the writers took some creative liberties. The couple had apparently been childhood sweethearts, and their oldest child was a daughter, not a son. Not that it matters, but I was curious how accurate the events in the show are with the actual historical dates. Wild Bill Hickok was killed on August 2nd, 1876, and E.B. Farnum became mayor on August 18th. So there isn't day-by-day accuracy, but it's all within the same general time period. (And Farnum actually won in a real election, winning 672 votes out of 1,139.)

Another great "companion piece" to Deadwood is Justified. It basically filled the hole of this show ending and also used a ton of actors from Deadwood - always making me think they were good folks since Olyphant wanted to work with them again.

Man what a weird twist of fate. I LOVE Powers Boothe but this is McShane's 110% can't imagine anyone else playing this role.

No way! I was just joking when I said that. I'm totally fine with the show taking liberties. I'm loving how they are telling this story. That is interesting that Farnum was voted in lol
