There were probably a lot of bad movies I liked as a kid, but Spice World - the Spice Girls movie - stand out in my mind. I don't recall thinking it was 'great cinema' or anything, but we were all very excited about it anyway. My dad and I were talking about bad movies the other day, and when he was a kid, he saw one called "Santa Claus vs The Martians." (No, really.) This would have been in the 60's, and exactly as bad as it sounds... I'm pretty sure it's an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 now.

I have an ALL TIME GREAT bad movie that I watched probably 100 times growing up. It had to have been Michael J. Fox 1st film probably, also had Stephen Furst and I think Pee Wee Herman before he was Pee Wee 😂 LOL. It's called 'Midnight Madness' late 70s or very early 80s probably. It was a comedy about an all night scavenger hunt. I mean I LOVED that movie. This post just shocked my system into having to search it and watch again now lol

Lone Wolf McQaid (Chuck Norris), Iron Eagle, and No Retreat No Surrender (probably Van Dam's 1st movie) I can't imagine how bad it really was lol

OH MAN!! I have seen Midnight Madness! I thought it was hilarious when I was little. David Naughton at his best! I don't remember much (I didn't know Michael J. Fox was in it), but I remember it's the first movie I ever heard of PBR. I don't know how bad it was, but all 3 critics on Rotten Tomatoes who reviewed it hated it.

I don't really remember watching that many terrible movies as a kid (my parents might disagree there). But I was obssesed with the straight-to-video sequels to Disney's Aladdin. Especially the third one. I mean it had a giant turtle, a magical hand that turned things into gold and Aladdin's very hot scoundrel dad. Of course back then I didn't really understand why I found Aladdin's dad so fascinating. I would be down to watch The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. I've never seen it before but I did watch A Fistful of Dollars and For A Few Dollars More a couple months ago and really enjoyed them. For A Few Dollars More especially blew me away. So much style. Lee Van Cleef was a standout.

I have never made it through that movie. It was at the tail end of the dark Disney period of the late 70s and early 80s. This was how they thought they could get teens.

The "bad" movies from my childhood that I remember watching way more than once are Howard The Duck, Masters Of The Universe and Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes.

The first on my bad movie as a kid list is Mac and Me that you’ve seen. 2. 3 Ninjas (1992) they manage to rip off both Karate Kid and Home Alone and make it an action comedy. Did well at the box office that they made it a trilogy even though they had to keep getting other kids to play the main characters 3. Return of the Shaggy Dog (1987) The original Shaggy Dog with Fred MacMurray is my favorite Disney comedy but this sequel with the kids as adults is just badly cast and doesn’t hit when you are trying to write the characters the same as when they are kids. 4. My movie that you won’t see get reaired. Ladybugs (1992) Rodney Dangerfield forces his step son Jonathan Brandis (RIP) to join a girls soccer team so he can get a promotion at work. The jokes are very one note and you know some fool is probably thinking this is a documentary.

I remember when Ladybugs came out. I didn't see it, but yeah, you can definitely see how the jokes had one direction to go there.

I have never actually sat down and watched any of the "Dollars Trilogy" (I know that's a studio-created misnomer). I forgot that Disney used to do straight-to-video sequels to their animated movies. I think that ended when Toy Story 2 was supposed to be one, but Pixar actually made the movie so good they ended up giving it a theatrical release, and Disney then started taking these sequels more seriously.

Jérémy

I guess the modern equivalent for this would be the straight to streaming animated sequels. Moana 2 was supposed to be a tv show on Disney+ but they reworked it into a movie sequel instead. Considering they made a bajillion dollars with it, probably the better move.

Patrick Crippen

I remember Fox was Naughton's little brother maybe? I do remember he defeated an arcade game to save the team and get a clue lol

The first movie that comes to mind is Tank (1984). A star studded cast with James Garner, Shirly Jones, and C Thomas Howell. It's also the first I remember seeing James Cromwell. Garner is Stg Major in the Army that owns his own fully functioning M4 Sherman tank. He runs afoul of local law enforcement where he is stationed. The sheriff then has drugs planted on Garner's son (Howell) and has him sent to a prison labor camp. Garner, unable to reason with the sheriff, takes his tank and busts his son out of prison, then flees for the state border. Obviously there are a lot of issues with the movie... but even now I have a hard time calling it bad as Garner is so fricking charismatic and watching a tank roll over police cars is pretty cool.

I remember tank! The sheriff was the local pimp (hence the trouble), and some bikers had to pull the tank out of the evil sheriff's jurisdiction!

You have ears! i dont remember what 80s movies i liked as a kid. i was born in 82 so I'm sure i had some, but i only know the ones i like as an adult. i do remember liking some bad early 90s ones. drop dead fred and little monsters. um, last action hero might be bad. i refuse to say that the live action ninja turtle movies were bad, i looved those. i also watched a lot of things i shouldn't have. poison ivy was probably bad. but even if its not i should not have been watching it. when i was a kid i used to watch the last emperor on tv all the time and i watched it as an adult and i was like omg this is dark! i didn't understand most of it as a kid but as a parent i wouldn't let me kid watch a movie that opens on a guy slitting his wrists. in my early adult years i used to like the brat pack movies from the 80s but a lot of them haven't aged well. or aspects of all of them didn't age well.

Oof, my list for this is embarrassingly long🤣. Of course, I too was in grade school in the 80s, so that’s probably why there are so many to choose from (thanks, cocaine!) I’ll keep my list short, but sorted into five subcategories of bad: Bad movies I didn’t really like even as a kid: Howard the Duck Oscar Bad but liked as a kid, and find repulsive now: Soul Man Short Circuit Sixteen Candles Bad, but still secretly kind of love them (if I compliment your ears do you promise not to judge me? You’re ears are blindingly radiant!): Xanadu Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Pirate Movie European Vacation Probably bad and I loved as a kid, but haven’t rewatched as an adult to gauge their badness: Midnight Madness Cannonball Run (both I and II) Caddy Shack 2 Bad, but didn’t discover until I was older, but probably would have liked as a kid: Can’t Stop the Music (Fun fact, Can’t Stop The Music is #1 on my list of “Awful Things That Were Probably Not Intended to Be Awful, but Are Beyond Laughably Awful and Make Absolutely no Sense At All”)

Heather

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun still kinda slaps. I will die on that hill. :)

Kristi Govertsen

Then it’s a hill we’re going die on together, sister. At least we’ll die doing what we loved, watching the opening credits DTV dance scene. 🎶Shout. Breakout. Don’t be insecure…🎶

Loving the new haircut, it looks great! As a hairdresser and barber, I love seeing a clean-cut look! High and tight does your ears well! LOL!

I remember having loved a "bad" movie (5.8 on IMdb, 20% on Rotten Tomatoes) when I was a child/pre-teenage girl. It was "My Stepmother Is An Alien" (1988). Does anyone know it? A film with Dan Aykroyd, Kim Basinger, Alysson Hannigan (Willow in Buffy) and a telescopic eye coming out of a handbag. It's an alien who's coming to Earth, knows nothing about humanity but has to destroy it by seducing a scientific played by Dan Aykroyd. I remember having watched that movie several times, for some reason. It's an ode to consumerism and American way of life if I remember correctly^^ lol But I didn't aknoweledged it until I became an adult.

Pretty in Pink (1986) is the one 'Brat Pack' movie I can still watch. The rest of them I can do without!

fire12wife

My Dad used to watch that movie all the time when I was a kid... which meant the rest of us did, too!

Teen Wolf (1985) starring Michael J. Fox was a pretty good movie, or at least I thought so back in the day! It came out the same year as the ICONIC movie Back to the Future (1985). Between shooting both films, while also doing his role on the sitcom Family Ties (1982-1999). Michael J. Fox was all over the teenage heartthrob, Tiger Beat Magazines, and also all over my bedroom walls! All these years later, I happened to catch Teen Wolf on TV and it wasn't long before I started asking myself, "What was I thinking?"!!! LOL! It definitely does NOT hold up after 40 years! Michael J. Fox has had an incredible career ... even after being diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1991, at the very young age of 29! He first started having symptoms while filming the adorable rom-com Doc Hollywood (1990). You should definitely check that one out! He went on to do several more films, including 2 Back to the Future sequels, and even another sitcom Spin City (1996-2002)! He kept his diagnosis to himself until he couldn't hide it anymore. After that, he did a few recurring guest star roles including the Dennis Leary drama Rescue Me (2004-2011) about FDNY Firefighters after 9-11... and to think it all started with Teen Wolf! A terrible movie!!! Hahahaaaaaa! It reminds me of Penny's movie Serial Ape-ist (2012) on The Big Bang Theory! LOL!
