Oh my goooood! 🖤🤍🖤 This is my favourite of Marilyn's films. I also love Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) and How to Marry a Millionaire (1953). But I want to check out more of her movies, I just did an Audrey Hepburn movie maraphon and I hope some day you check out some of her films as well

If you want to check out Jack Lemon, please see The Apartment (1960) - which is another Billy Wilder movie (Sunset Boulevard, Double Indemnity, Witness for the Prosecution)

Fantastic choice!!!! I can't wait to watch.

Greatest last line ever? This movie never fails to provide the laughs—Everyone in it is great but Jack Lemmon is sublime. So glad see this reaction!!! More Billy Wilder please!

Billy Wilder's work is amazing. How does the guy who gave us Double Indemnity and Sunset Boulevard also turn around and make one of the greatest comedies of all time?

The accent was because Tony wanted to sound like Cary Grant. Jack was way more at ease dressing like a woman, while Tony needed a hand with his voice. They had to work on blending his voice.

Thanks! It definitely seemed like Jack was having an easier time with both the voice and the mannerisms of his drag performance.

Excellent choice! I love this movie. "... can't tell if either one of them is playing close to correctly." -- Well... no, but that's hardly the point 😊 And at least Curtis' embouchure is pretty close - I've seen a lot worse. But on a more positive note, yes, Marilyn is doing all her own singing. So glad you enjoyed this one!

I started learning violin and guitar very young, and both my brothers learned clarinet (one going on to get an MFA in classical music as a clarinetist... and started his career in Chicago for that matter, so even more relevant to the movie), but I somehow never learned the term embouchure until the show Over the Garden Wall. Of course I never played wind instruments myself but it's still odd I'd first learn about it from an offhand comment in that show.

This is one of those movies that it's crazy to me that like an elder millennial or gen xer (sorry to guess at your age Kevin) wouldn't at least know the premise...but you did know that that last line. As Michael said, greatest last line ever? It's almost like the comedy equivalent of "it was his sled" at this point. I'm not aware of Lake Michigan ever overflowing but they did reverse the course of the Chicago River so all the sewage flowed down the Mississippi to St. Louis instead of into the lake.

Yeah, outside the closing moment on the boat (I didn't even l know there were 4 of them on the boat until I watched), I didn't know what the movie was about at all. And I'm glad I didn't connect that scene with this film, or I would have known going in that at least Jack Lemon spent some of the film in drag.

I first saw this when I was at university about 20 years ago and it’s always been a favourite. Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis were great, but Jack Lemmon was such a revelation to me. I’d only seen him in Glen Garry Glen Ross before that, so it was great to see younger him in such a fantastic comedic role. Such a fun movie and the soundtrack is wonderful! Glad you enjoyed it!
