One of the most frustrating aspect about the Buffyverse fandom with reactors are the spoilers 🤦🏾‍♀️. They think they aren't spoiling when most aren't clever or subtle enough to make a reference to a future episode without indicating that they're actually spoiling with the fact that what they're saying has some form of significance in the future because they think spoilers are simply making blantant remarks regarding, and not understanding that there are various forms of spoiling, from opinion spoilers to hinting spoilers to outright telling someone what going to happen...

I agree with this. I love the enthusiasm from people who love the show (and their enthusiasm really does make the show more fun for us), but we feel like everybody wins when we are as blind to what is coming as possible.

Clea DuVall was also in the HBO series "Carnivale", which you guys might like. It's only 2 seasons, 24 episodes total, and while it's not great, it's creative and interesting. Kevin, I would highly recommend "The Untouchables" for a future Insomnia Theater.

Thanks, Jeff! I don't know (or care) how historically accurate The Untouchables is, but it looks like fun.

It didn't occur to me until this rewatch how long it takes for Cordelia (who has been in the main credits since the beginning) to get some development and be an actual character. There's nothing like being in on the Big Secret to make a character more likable. And I like that it still doesn't fundamentally change her. Cordelia is still Cordelia; she just understands the Scoobies a bit more and they understand her a little more. Yeah, this show does a lot of homage. I think they do just about every Universal monster concept at some point, and this episode is their Invisible Man, with Marcie as Claude Rains. The ending is the only thing that doesn't work as well for me.

I like this episode. It works well with the "horror" of high school metaphor the show plays with. I'd say there's some off direction or perhaps editing in this episode with some odd line readings and some choppy scenes, but I like a lot of moments here. Cordelia giving a little bit of depth, just when you're about to completely dismiss her. The metaphor as monster of being so unacknowledged that you literarily become invisible. I also appreciate that there's some moments where Buffy clearly misses a bit of her former teen-girl life and the pre-Slayer interests she doesn't really get to have any more.

It's kind of like some of the hanging threads on West Wing for me: if there is some payoff with the Men In Black at the end, I think it's a higher episode for me than if they just let that go.

Yeah that was Clea Duvall. She's great and been in a bunch of stuff since the 90s. A favorite of mine is But...I'm a Cheerleader. The classic Natasha Lyonne lesbian hilarious romp which also stars Rupaul. That would be a good movie to cover during pride month. This was a fun episode and I enjoy a chance for Cordelia to do a bit more.

Charisma Carpenter is such a wonderful actor. They cast her perfectly as someone who can make us casually laugh about Cordelia and maybe hate her at first, and then bring the 3D humanity to make us, actually, despite when she sucks, *like her*. I don’t know if that was the plan for Cordelia from the jump, or if they switched tune after seeing how great Charisma was. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Either way — Charisma is wonderful. Glad you pointed out the plot-necessitated absurdity of Cordelia having her dress fitting at the school! I feel like this sort of excuse dropped off sharply after S1 (maybe budget-related?). Have either of you seen a movie called But I’m A Cheerleader? If not, and you feel like you have the time/energy to do a poll for a queer-oriented thing for pride month viewing later, that would be a good inclusion. Clea Duvall has a very prominent role in that movie. Oh, also — Credits Watch: The scene where Buffy crawls through the band room attic has a (wonderfully-lighted) shot in the credits.

I love re-watching this episode, it's so solid, start to finish, and the actresses really deliver. Plus a great conversation scene with Angel and Giles, and Angel even gets to help save the day. Fine form heading into the finale.

Yeah Clea Duvall is a low key legend and never got the acting praise she deserved. She mainly was a scream queen but has since transitioned into directing and producing. She is an icon in the queer film world because she has starred in, produced, and directed many queer themed movies. Most famously is her starring in But Im a cheerleader. Which as others mentioned you should absolutely watch, especially if you enjoyed the queer masterpiece that is nightmare on elm Street 2z

I'm not sure I've ever seen Halloween 1 or Halloween 2, but Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch I've seen several times, and it's an absolute banger, a solid creepy mystery. AFAIK, it shares no narrative DNA with the first two films.

Pam Nail

The only thing is that the movie Halloween -- which in 3's universe is just a fictional film -- is advertised on the TV in a bar.

Clea Duvall was also the doctor who helped Chuck McGill treat his illness in Better Call Saul.
