Was there a way to hate someone even more than Joffrey ? May I present to you Ramsay Bolton....

I don't know if this part of history is taught in US schools, but Cersei's "atonement" is very much rooted in reality. After WWII, after the Liberation, in countries like mine that had been occupied by the Nazis, people wanted revenge against those who were thought to have collaborated with the enemy. Amid the purges, thousands of women were accused of having slept with German soldiers - "horizontal collaboration", they called it. These women were sheared ; they were dragged through the streets and given to the crowds. Some were raped. Some were killed. All of it at the hands of people who claimed to be exacting "justice". Mind you, this wasn't centuries ago during the Dark Ages ; this was 80 years ago, when our grandparents were around. So yeah, for some of us this scene hit quite close to home.

That final scene was the moment when viewers all over the world screamed (like you did) and vowed to never watch Game of Thrones again. I have a feeling most people broke that vow, since GOT continued to be the most popular show on the planet. I agree with you that this episode pulled the whole season together and created new drama for the next season. And I love seeing your honest emotional reactions to all of it.

- It makes me laugh when people seem to casually dismiss John’s friend Edd. Sam and John have their little moment of, “Who am I left with, Edd?? LOL”, which makes me think, “Why are we dissing Edd? He’s a consistently good dude?” Then, when Sam was leaving you said, “There goes John’s only friend!” Edd is still there, everybody! My poor dude gets so little recognition. 😂 - About John Snow’s death — I, luckily, didn’t have to wait in between seasons to continue, so I got an immediate seat to what the show did going forward. All I will say is . . . while a lot of people feel this season is the start of the show being less great than at its peak . . . I actually don’t think most people consider this factor a reason why. The story may be better equipped to pivot around this change than you may realize.

You definitely have the benefit of only waiting a week to start season six opposed to waiting a year like most of us did during the original run of the series.

Yeah, this season always felt like one of the rougher ones (not in terms of quality, just in terms of having to watch characters go through horrible situations), but this finale slaps. Three satisfying deaths, three horrifying deaths, and oh my God seriously where is Bran?

I was just coming to share that article it's a really great read.

Followed by the biggest (and completely avoidable) marketing blunder....

Okay I feel like we don't get a ton of Edd. Also Sam and Jon are on a different level. As far as the second part of your comment goes....I don't know what you mean

This season did take a lot longer to pay off, but the way it ended set up such unbelievable hype. Imagine not watching for 9 months after this, and imagine that even if you read the books, you don't learn anything new, because the show has caught up to them. All at the end of S5: - The Night King and the army of the dead, the free folk south of the Wall. - Myrcella murdered by the Sand Snakes. - Tyrion and Varys at Meereen, Dany with the Dothraki horde. - Sansa escaped from Winterfell and knows her brothers are alive. - Cersei's walk of atonement. - Stannis' army crushed. - Arya gone blind. - Jon Snow murdered by his brothers. The hype scale for S6 was completely off the charts. We had watch parties every weekend. We made etched wineglasses with house sigils and words on them. We made stew and served it bread trenchers, with lemon cakes for dessert. We sang "game of f---ing thrones" (search this on youtube if you haven't seen it already) to the opening credits every week. It was peak TV. I don't think we will ever see its like again.

A couple episodes earlier, Sam and Olly had a seemingly innocuous conversation about Jon's decision to invite the wildlings south of the wall. But Sam actually planted the seed in Olly's mind that killing Jon was the right thing to do. "Sometimes a man has to make hard choices. Choices that might look wrong to others, but you know are right in the long run."

I now understand the hype. I refused to watch the show for so long because I was stubborn. I'm really jealous I missed out on such a great time.
