Since you didn’t make any jokes I’m wondering if you guys have seen the Brendan Fraser mummy movies?

Youtalkingtome

I almost made a Brendan Fraser crack. I saw the first two in theaters (enjoyed the first one, not so much the second one).

Seth Green's performance in this show really surprised me, knowing him from Austin Powers, Family Guy, Robot Chicken, etc. We didn't see much of him in this episode but I think he's very good in more of a dramatic role here.

Sarah Michelle Gellar actually has a black belt in Taekwondo and stuedied it for 5 years. She also studied kickboxing, boxing, and gymnastics. She has said it definitely helped with doing fight choreography...

this episode has so many great things for it! tiny baby seth green with his mustache that says I just hit puberty but havent asked mom for a razor yet," a solid first nccrnenapr bs Wbanguna! (spoiler), and a fairly solid monster of the week! I will say, Xander is absolutely insufferable for a lot of this episode. I'm not the biggest fan of xander, and it's because of stuff like this. I try to mostly appreciate the times when he's brave and heroic, and not like this. Also, every time ive been to a museum, they had sensors and alarms so as not to have people damage or take stuff. I guess sunnydale just doesn't particularly care ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In light of the dance/cultural appropriation cringefest they had, I wanted to note that, while willow put a lot of work into her costume, "Esk*mo" is considered a slur by the Inuit and other indigenous people of the far north. My understanding is that it's the name given to them by white colonizers, and it's definitely better to use the names they use for themselves. Inuit, Aleut, Inupiat, Yu'pic, etc

As a Dutch guy, I'm fine with a tower of cheese blocks representing The Netherlands. But it irks me that over half of the little flags stuck into the tower were flags of France. 😂 Xander and Angel together found Buffy drowned in that pool of water. Xander is the one that gave Buffy CPR and brought her back from the dead. So yeah, you misremembered. It definitely was Xander that saved her life, more so than Angel.

Alex Lee

You spotted some of the actors in this episode, but did you catch that the tour guide at the beginning was Bernard White?

Jamie Morgan

Xander's obnoxious clinginess aside, I love this episode a lot. They somehow managed to pull off Ampata as an endearing and sympathetic character, despite all the awful things she did. And there was some legit chemistry between her and Xander - the Twinkie scene is absolutely adorable!

Genevieve Clerc

It is very interesting that you recognised Danny Strong. He is meant to be "the guy who is not noticeable", and .. it will be a different experience for you.

You (and we as viewers of your reaction) will have an episode in the future that will explore the issue of jealousy, namely the important thesis -- jealousy does not automatically mean love. It means attachment, and attachment can be different. Many people do not like Xander as a character, but I think people forget about the girls on the show, because in society, especially among men, there is a widespread belief that men have more attachment to girls, and girls are kind of graciously accepting their attention. Everything is exactly the opposite. Buffy and Willow also have hormones, they are also 17 years old, and the search for a partner never really stops, even if there is someone here and now who is better (and Xander really looks pathetic against the background of the same Angel or even Oz), but that does not mean that things can't change. Attachment may grow into something more, or it may not. Xander actually has at least two strong-willed moments that we've seen. He saved Buffy's life and he stayed with Buffy as a "friend" after he confessed to her. I couldn't do that, really. +He also trusted Angel's plan in School Hard, which was pretty stupid, really, and it was all for Buffy's sake, too, even after she rejected him.

Yeah, we definitely have hope for Xander. This just felt like a regression in the writing of his character for this episode (and he harped on it for the entire episode with little variance). The show is so good and his character has such potential, I do hope the writers give him more of an arc moving forward.

Ampata was a great character (a sympathetic monster, really, which the show pulled off really well), and the juxtaposition between Buffy and her was terrific. Xander was just so underwritten in this episode, and it unfortunately hindered an otherwise great story.

Lola Lirola

I think I vaguely remember that season 2 episodes were written in a different order than they were finally aired, hence the "regression" whiplash in some situations, like the Willow/Xander/Buffy stuff that actually was dealt with on last episode.
