Another one I've been meaning to see for ages - and read! But then, to-be-read and -watched lists can stack up at an unbelievable speed. I'm under a mountain, myself. But this will have to go at the top of the list now. Good Lord this was beautiful. I've always wanted to see India, as long as I can remember. Visuals like we see in act I only reinforce it. And then several parts thereafter were significantly harder to watch than I anticipated -- the ship sinking, the goodbye on the beach... God, I don't know how you guys do this on camera. I would have embarrassed myself... Then of course, on the other end of the emotional spectrum, the sunrise on the lifeboat looked like paradise. Something straight out of a Turner painting -- https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/668869 Otherwise, this reminds me so much of Salman Rushdie's "Midnight's Children," a novel. It has a similar sort of dreamy magical realism set in India. On the off chance you're ever looking for something to read, I couldn't recommend anything higher.

I hope you thought it was worth your time—I love this film but I forget that it can be a rough watch.

I took an art history class in college, and JMW Turner was one of my favorite painters (his violent seascapes with barely visible, small observers were my favorites). I have never read Midnight Children, but I do enjoy Magical realism (after all, I started my rec reading life as a Stephen King fan).
