Very cool! Can't pass this one up! The third major Dustin Hoffman movie, after The Graduate (1967) and Midnight Cowboy (1969). Talk about excellent career choices! And it didn't stop there! (Straw Dogs followed the next year, etc etc). He famously locked himself in a room for a week and screamed himself hoarse before he filmed the old man scenes in this one. This is also probably the second best Arthur Penn movie after "Bonnie And Clyde". (Faye Dunaway plays Bonnie) (I just realized who I'm talking to and that you probably have already seen Bonnie And Clyde!!!). Ok, well, I'll check it out and see you on the other side!

The guy at the begging of the movie we saw talking with Dustin Hoffman is an actor named William Hickey who you might remember as Uncle Lewis from National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Also if you liked the actor Chief Dan George you might want to check The Outlaw Josey Wales starring Clint Eastwood he is great in that and steals the movie.

If you’re looking for another western that gives a sympathetic portrayal of Native Americans might I suggest Fort Apache (1948) a John Ford/John Wayne/Henry Fonda movie and quasi Custer Little Big Horn story. And another interesting western is Sergeant Rutledge (1960) by John Ford about a Buffalo Soldier.

Fantastic post-film discussion!

Dustin Hoffman comedies? The first movies that comes to mind is 1982's Tootsie and the mega-flop Ishtar.
