Wait, wait, wait – there’s a Criterion mailing list? I need to look into that immediately. I had never heard of this movie before – but that was fantastic! And a great soundtrack. “History is violent and often ugly.” Yes! Thank you! It’s our inability to acknowledge and learn from it that gives us so much trouble. “Dad had a girlfriend” – As soon as that came to light, my first thought was ‘uh-oh’... And I really hoped I was wrong... But oh dear God. And I feel so terrible for them. If any two deserved happiness... So much of this movie reminds me of True Detective. Did either of you watch that show? If you like this, you’d probably love that.

Daniel Lydford

The woman in the club yelling for the doctor is Chandra Wilson who would go on to play Dr. Miranda Bailey in Grey's Anatomy.

Hey, thanks guys, that was fun. Glad you enjoyed the flick. Criminally underwatched, in my opinion - what a cast, and what a screenplay. I'm a sucker for stories about struggling with the legacy of those who came before, and characters in the present confidently interpreting the past and being shockingly wrong. The transitions between time periods are *so* brilliant. And on top of that, the movie has so much to say about the complexity of interactions between peoples - we might use different words to talk about these things today, but the complexities are the same. Cheers!
