The Winds of Winter

I'm a fan of S7. It's not as good as the first 6, but it has a lot of great payoffs and good moments of its own. Like you said, every storyline is coming together now, all the arrows point in the same direction at the end of this episode, so it's really fun to see them meet up and weave together. I won't go on because I don't want to spoil anything. This episode though. So much going on, so much to say about it. Just from the start, that was a brand new piece of music we haven't heard before, and it is perfectly tailored to the events of the trial. It's just kind of sad at first, but it starts to get twisted as soon as you see Lancel notice the kid, and Pycelle enter Qyburn's... lab (I almost wrote lair, lol). And it just gets worse from there. I think the biggest clue of what's about to happen, after you see just the slightest hints of green on the barrels, is another shot of Cersei watching the Sept from the Red Keep. The way they shot Tommen was so brutal. We didn't see a thing, but it was just... he was there, and then he wasn't, and then before they even cut away from the window, Walder Frey was giving a toast. Diabolical. They said so much in the first 20 minutes using so few words. They could have just given us that, and saved the rest for an eleventh. Seeing the Citadel was epic, the high tower, the white ravens, the comic relief from Sam, and the library reveal. I don't know if you caught it, but I think one of the things hanging in the library is the thing surrounding the Sun in the opening credits. You nailed Tyrion being named Hand -- it's the one time in his life he was really enjoying himself, when he was acting Hand in Westeros. When Bran reached for the weirwood tree, I was like OMG I FORGOT THIS IS IN THIS EPISODE. Obviously I remembered the plot point, but I didn't realize it was in the same episode as all of the rest of this. There was a lot of theorycrafting going on during this show's run, so some people had actually guessed this about Jon. There were a ton of people sitting on the edges of their seats who leaped up and screamed YES!!! when they cut from baby Jon to adult Jon. I'm glad you already thought through a lot of the implications of this for Ned. He kept it a secret from everyone, even Catelyn, knowing what that would mean for them. The bigger tragedy is if you go back and watch season 1, and see the last conversation Ned and Jon had. Some really hard-hitting episodes in this season. I think it's my favorite overall, and this is definitely my favorite episode of the series.

"I did not see this coming at all" about just Loras joining the Sparrows, oh boy strap in Finally the confirmation of probably the most famous and widely believed fan theory that the books never got far enough to confirm. Frankly even though they never got this far plot-wise, the books had WAY more hints at it starting pretty early. Even the first book showed Ned having a fever dream of the fight with Rhaegar's kingsguard and Lyanna saying "promise me Ned" at the tower when he was unconscious recovering from the injury he got fighting Jaime, and there were a bunch more hints in the visions Dany saw in the wizard tower in Qarth in book 2 that weren't in the equivalent scene in season 2. So we definitely get confirmation that Jon isn't Ned's son, he's Lyanna's; this whole time the mystery was around who his MOTHER was, but just checking whether it's confirmed for you now who his FATHER was? It's amazing that they have BOTH that and the payoff to the entire Cersei + Sparrows + Margaery storyline in this one episode. And OH MY GOD, everything about that opening scene, the direction, the editing, the score, is on another level from the already very high bar we've seen from most of this show. And then Dany finally sailing for Westeros, Arya finally giving Walder Frey what he had coming, and I totally forgot about Sam and Gilly getting to Oldtown in this episode too. Holy shit what an episode. To be honest, probably the last 10/10 of the show for me.

Such an amazing opening. The direction and editing were fantastic. Sam discovering the library was also a great moment in this episode. This episode is by far the best of the show so far.

They gave us so much in this episode and it all totally worked. This is my favorite season and I kind of want to go back and binge the entire season immediately. Ned might be my favorite character now. I know he's been gone since the first season but this literally brought tears to my eyes.

Amazing reaction to the best episode of the show !! This episode is nuts.. it just never stops and the music like you said is the best here. As for your question, i personally really love season 7, so many great scenes/moments to come, you're in for a treat my guy.

Love me the small details so I wanna say there’s a Shakespeare pull in this episode. One of the shortest plays of his Titus Andronicus has a but where the sons are cooked into a pie. I read it my senior year of high school and I can’t not think of it when I watch this episode.

It's so great that you've never seen this, nor have you had the story spoiled for you, because that was the most honest emotional reaction I've ever seen. Even though I knew what was coming, I still broke down crying right along with you. I'm one of the few people in the entire world that actually liked both seasons 7 and 8. I never got caught up in the social media frenzy about the show, so I had no hopes or expectations about any of it, and I think that allowed me to just enjoy and appreciate it. So I hope you're able to go into the final two seasons with an open mind to develop your own feelings and opinions, whatever they may be.

I forgot just how many HUGE things were crammed into this one episode! A truly great one. There's certainly a large and vocal percentage of viewers who hate seasons 7 and 8, and there are some criticisms that are definitely valid, but overall I think they're very good. There are some specific, not-to-be-said, things, especially in season 8, that a lot of fans weren't happy about, but I've always disagreed with their interpretation, I really like the stuff that others didn't. I'm hoping you'll be pleasantly surprised by what's to come!

That piano score is amazing - I can't remember ever hearing the piano as a prominent instrument in this show before, and it's not even jarring, it's perfect somehow. Also RIP Margaery. Of course she was the only one with the sense to know to try and get out. And FINALLY Davos finds out what happened to Shireen. Every time I watch this show I keep expecting that to happen sooner - like right after Jon comes back

Tommy Ross

Oh yeah I always block out the fact that Cersei sentences Septa Unella to repeated rape. That feels terrible even for Cersei

Youtalkingtome

RIP to Margaery. I really did love her character. The Davos scene was amazing. If this episode wasn't already full of amazing scenes, it would have been my favorite of the episode.

The first ten minutes of this episode are my favourite ten minutes of television ever. Ramin Djawadi you are a master.
