If you’re looking for another western with Rock Hudson check out Bend in the River (1952) with Jimmy Stewart and directed by Anthony Mann. Also The Last Sunset (1961) with Kirk Douglas and directed by Robert Aldrich.

The character of Dan Morse is played by Richard Mulligan who played George Armstrong Custer in Little Big Man (1970).

This has been on my watchlist forever. Thanks to whoever purchased it to make me watch it. I’m named after Merlin Olsen’s character on Little House on the Prairie.

This was so exciting to see you get to this movie. I've never seen anyone react to it but it's one of my favorite westerns and it shows a little known aspect of the end of the Civil War. Money well spent and thank you guys for giving us a way to bring our favorites directly to you.

I read a chunk of Killer Angels back when they were adapting it for the movie Gettysburg (I was there during filming) Gods and Generals the prequel to Killer Angels is also a great movie (and one of the longest in American film history ) even if the two biggest characters in the movie are Confederates it’s some great period filmmaking.

A really underrated John Wayne movie to check out is Hondo (1953) one of his co-stars is Pal (the original Lassie) also the screen debut of Geraldine Page.

True Story: the only time I have ever heard of Hondo was when Al Bundy wanted to watch it on an episode of Married...With Children when I was a kid. I would love to check it out!

Oh wow, I wasn't expecting to see Rock Hudson and John Wayne together in a movie, but it works! And Rock's southern accent is far better here than in Pillow Talk ;) It would be super interesting to learn about the production of this one. The logistics of all the remote locations, historical costumes & props, and I'm guessing *every* horse they could find are mind boggling. "Killer Angels" - Excellent choice! Enjoy!

A great western set during this same period is Vera Cruz (1954) starring Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster and directed by Robert Aldrich.

An interesting note Emperor Maximilian was executed on June 19th, 1867 despite great international pressure for clemency. President Benito Juarez believing that a message needed to be sent that Mexico would not tolerate another foreign invasion.

Fun fact the word Oklahoma did not come into usage until 1866 a year after this movie is set being coined by the Choctaw chief Allen Wright. In reality they would have called it Indian Territory because it had been aside for the southeastern tribes following their forced relocation known as the Trail of Tears.
