They definitely got the frozen custard reference correct about St. Louis.

This is not one of my favorites, mostly because all the campaign scenes are so hard to watch, with everyone talking over each other and no way to know what you're supposed to focus on. My favorite scenes are the ones with Toby. Love seeing Santos's son dressed as Harry Potter. This would have aired between books six and seven's releases, and it was the first year in several that neither a new book nor a new movie came out.

This is also why I headcanon that it wasn't actually Toby who did the leak. I don't have it specifically laid out in my mind, but just something where Brock's source is someone else who originally got it from Toby's brother or something. Like the information that it existed was shared before the brother died, and it only 'came out' (either by being told to Brock then or Brock waiting to use it until then) when there was crisis. It was none of our crew, which Toby is adamant about, but also going public with it was not something his brother was directly involved with either, which is why he says the brother had nothing to do with it. there's just statements here that seem like the actor is playing them honestly, with honest conviction, that don't make sense with what the show presents us as the explanation

The relatively calm Toby scenes are juxtaposed with the chaos of the campaign. I think it's great. It's a fun, dynamic episode with a lot going on! And this is also a great Toby episode.

This is my favorite Toby episode. They give us every reason to think he'll break, and then he reminds us who he is. And he makes it simple for the prosecutor by giving him a no-win scenario. Do your worst, and you'll still have no more information than you have right now. The next time you are backed into a corner, remember Toby. "Josh -- you think we're gonna win?" I like the open-ended spirit of this question -- you can mentally reword it so many different ways. "Was all of this worth it?" "Is my life ever going to be normal again?" "Am I really going to have to manage 150,000 troops in between China and Russia?" The insanity of the campaign is so palpable on the bus, and there are so many quick details that keep ratcheting it up, even something simple like Santos leaning on the table and getting melted ice cream on his hand. They finally got within striking distance of Vinick after San Andreo, and now the high has worn off, and they're a week out, and Santos realizes he might actually win this thing. I'd be freaked out about troop deployments and national security too.

I would be very down to see Kevin's reaction to that latest South Park episode. The fakeouts with there being some supposed scandal about Santos leaking only for it to turn out the leak is just that he's a really good guy who loves his family reminds me of this xkcd of Mr. Rogers "fighting" with his wife: https://xkcd.com/767/

And I love how Josh is reframing the Kazakhstan situation as "You like McNally? Here's your Secretary of State." So the "You think we're going to win?" is even more impactful. Well read, Michael.

The show's ending is super emotional and amazing. Make sure to grab some tissues!

I love how in this last scene with Santos, we can see how Josh has grown. He's been always afraid to be a disappointment to his superiors and/or friends and wasn't dealing with being yelled at very much. And he was losing his temper and therefore making mistakes. This time, he's got it : "I got it". The voice of reason. The Chief of Staff. I understand your frustrations, we'll get to that, but I know what's important now. We'll deal with everything, count on me, you're great and we're gonna deal with everything. Very Leo. He spoke like Leo there.

Regarding the Kazakhstan war that Santos is worried about - another thing that hit too on the nose for me personally. This aired smack dab in the middle of the US going to Iraq "without an endgame plan" or "what does a win look like" thoughts. I prefer when they take more subtle jabs at politics than direct hits. Originally airing on March 26, 2006, 'Welcome to Wherever You Are' is Episode 15 of Season 7 of The West Wing. It is the 148th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 7.7, placing it as the #21 ranked episode of this season and #121 out of all the episodes shown so far.

The Toby and Andy parts of this episode get to me every time, you really feel so much for both of them. Toby is in such a terrible position, backed into a corner by the second indictment with all that weight on his shoulders, the politics but also the kids. I always enjoy seeing Andy again (the last episode she was in before this was Gaza! It's been a long time!), and it's really so sad too to see her in this position with her election? Last time we saw her around election day, she'd just won with 85% of the vote, and now she's at very real risk of losing a seat she's had for like 10-14 years over something Toby (who she divorced eight years ago!) did. That's got to be such a frustrating thing to deal with. They've always had a complicated and emotional relationship, and it's at such a key point here, I love watching their scenes.
