Haha as UK person I find it funny that you thought Ryan Phillippe Scottish accent was good

Utterly adore this movie! The cast is first class and it’s so beautifully shot and has some really emotional moments as well as funny ones! The blond valet who spends his time complaining and rolling his eyes played a similar sort of role in another fantastic movie, ‘The Madness of King George’. If you haven’t seen it, I may have to request another reaction from you!

One of my favorites. What a cast! Helen Mirren, Eileen Atkins, Maggie Smith all grand dames of British stage & screen, people like the great Shakespearean Derek Jacobi taking a small role, the whole ensemble fitting together marvelously. Altman had a unique touch; actors were eager to work with him. Gosh I love Jeremy Northam singing Novello's songs, enraptured servants listening by the doors. Our arthouse theater had such success with GP, it supposedly had a longer run than any film they'd ever shown. Writer Julian Fellowes later wrote Downton Abbey, very similar setting but earlier (1912-).

Eww, just noticed Laurence Fox is in this movie. Before he turned into a ultra right wing drama queen I suppose.

This was so good! Every detail, the cast, the music. Still need to check out Downton Abbey at some point

I had been saving this for Oscar season but have to watch it with you guys. I have a tradition of making a big fancy dinner and watching a movie with a big rich family, ever since I on accident watched and fell in love with The Remains of the Day during an Oscar weekend dinner.

I love this movie so much, and it is definitely one that bears several rewatches. It is impossible to catch all the little details the first time. One thing I love is that every single scene has a "downstairs" character in it. Even private conversations between the "upstairs" characters, you have a servant popping in, then apologizing and ducking out.

I loved how so many scenes were frames with people eavesdropping on other conversations. It was so well-directed.

This one has been a favourite of mine since it came out. So glad someone picked this!

I’m so glad you guys liked this movie—it’s a personal favorite of mine. Hopefully more Altman in the future! Just one nit to pick in your description above: Emily Watkins should be Emily Watson.

I love this movie and I'm a huge Julian Fellowes fan! The upstairs/downstairs to it all is so good. The sheer amount of Sirs and Dames in this movie is wild and I don't think there's another movie with so many celebrated British actors outside of the Harry Potter series or The Crown. I can't wait for you to watch Downton Abbey one day and I'd love it if you guys ever watched The Crown. Charles Dance is also in The Crown; always love it when he pops up. Julian Fellowes also did a miniseries on the Titanic and one called Belgravia that is amazing as well as an excellent show about the American elite on HBO currently airing called The Gilded Age.

Love this movie. Some folks recommending Downton in the comments--just my personal take, but it's one I'd think about only committing to a season at a time. The first season really is fantastic, and the second is still very good even though cracks start to show... Gotta say though, after that my take would be that there are three seasons that are all quite bad.
