It's 7 episodes this season, and 6 for the last one. And NO, it's not only for that reason that these seasons are a bit jarring at some point (more season 8 than 7 though... that last season is almost like a dumpster on fire near the end) But no worries, some of my favorite episodes are still to come.

Hard to find the stuff I remember reading about the decision making at the time. IIRC the showrunners decided they didn't need two full seasons to finish the story (I... disagree on that) but HBO wanted the show to keep going as long as possible so they decided on two shorter seasons instead of one long season.

The last seasons are rushed due to the short amount of episodes but I think they make the most of it despite the limitations. I honestly really enjoy where it goes.

Propaganda is always based in reality, but bent just enough to make it look it's making your side the "right" side. Cersei's speech was on that perfect tightrope line to get her side buffed up.

As a finishing note, don't waste your time looking for the "jarring things to come" because a lot of people said they don't like the last seasons. Just enjoy the ride like we did when it originally came out (my favorite episodes are the next 2-3, and OMG are they bangers!) and we trust you to see when the wheels fall of the burning cart (again, it's really not that big of a step down.... right until ep 5-6 of season 8 IMO), and just analyze it at THAT point. You will see it as much as we all did. But enjoy the next ones, they really are worth your watch!

Totally agree here, don't worry about expectations and just enjoy the ride. There's plenty of good show still to come.

Sam once again shows his bravery. Unfortunately Theon doesn't. :(
