Wow! Just to let you guys know the good news: this movie is now in the public domain, incredibly! (that's probably why it's up on you tube) So you don't have to go nuts when doing an edit. (or even have to do an edit at all, you can just unblur the screen! (Someone else just did a reaction for it recently, that's how I know! I didn't watch much of their reaction though.....and now I'm happy I didn't! :D. This isn't a movie you want to watch twice in a month! lol. )

Dance marathons were real! In this age of SQUID GAME, Pollack's movie (and McCoy's novel) have more resonance than ever. That *was* Grandpa Munster (Al Lewis) you spotted! Susannah York (Alice) was a well known British stage and screen actor. If you've ever seen the George C. Scott version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, she played Mrs. Cratchit. Red Button was a comedic actor who had a long career. His most recognizable role was as the sweet, but retiring Mr. Martin one of the main characters in the "ultimate" disaster movie -- THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE (1972). My family and I saw Gig Young in a dinner theater production of the play HARVEY in 1974 or 75. He was quite good. And incidentally the movie version of HARVEY (1950) with Jimmy Stewart is a lot of fun and would make an excellent reaction video!

Dance marathons WERE a thing during the Depression.

Gig Young was really good in this. I'm sure it was a thrill to see him onstage (the tragic end to his life notwithstanding).

Well what a wonderful feel bad movie. I have a lot of thoughts about the ending where I believe I sorta disagree with you guys. If you live in the misery of 1930s depression, own nothing and don't have any hope for the future, I feel like at the very least one should have the right to decide how one dies. But it's a big heavy complex topic maybe not fit for a comment section. From a cinematography standpoint the movie was gorgeous. The running scenes were so stomach-turning. It did make me laugh to recognise lines that were used in the Gilmore Girls episode I watched before.
