I have not rewatched this in a minute and watching with you both reminds me how much I love this silly film. I am also in awe of the range that Grant and Hepburn show over their full careers. How can you be the best dramatic actress of all time AND toss in some elite comedy work? And yes, I think many folks compare Cary Grant to George Clooney because of they share an excellent range (action, comedy, drama) across a lengthy body of work and have legendary face cards.

Heaving watched a lot of old movies and seeing people wear all kinds of elegant suits and dresses I’ve would have loved to have asked all those old stars what was it like wearing those clothes did you enjoy it or was it really a pain and were just uncomfortable and couldn’t wait to get it off.

Best animal performances besides this? Besides Orangey, the dog Verdell in "As Good As It Gets" (with Jack Nicholson). Also, Jenny the Donkey from "Banshees of Inisherin" and Toto in "The Wizard of Oz."

😀😀😀😀 Love this. Do we think Peter Bogdanovich may have watched a time or two? 😏

Best animal performance has to be the orangutan from one of the "Any Which Way..." movies.

I would imagine it was incredibly hot under the old studio lights! They were probably sweating like crazy

Please check out His Girl Friday, you would definitely love it. Its witty dialogue feels like a direct inspiration for Palladinos work in Marvelous Mrs Maisel

I love Robin Williams in The Birdcage, Good Will Hunting but HATED him in Good Morning Vietnam and thought Mork and Mindy and his cocaine-fueled stand-up comedy was "unwatchable" and simply not funny. I got a similar- but NOY as extreme vibe here- that Grant and Hepburn are superior actors and able to pull off this genre- BUT that the non-stop pace was exhausting and shouted lines and scripted dialogue interruptions were a bit much. When I paused the movie every 10-15 minutes for a break I found it funny but I can't really see watching this start to end in the way it was directed due to the manic pacing

Gilmore Girls reminds me of His Girl Friday—not because of the plot or storyline, but because of the rapid-fire dialogue.

This was such a great movie! I really love Bringing Up Baby! I think it was meant to feel chaotic in a thrilling way for its time. Life was tougher back then, so laughing through the chaos helped people shift their perspective and face life with a lighter, more playful spirit instead of being so uptight and taking things too seriously. 😅😆

arsenic and old lace is still my fave cary grant but i never get tired of seeing him

Funny because Cary Grant always thought his performance went way over the top but considering the plot and who he interacts with I think his reaction is just about normal.

Excellent observation on how much "What's Up Doc?" borrows from this film. Not only does the relationship between David and Alice in this film get mimicked by the Howard and Eunice relationship in the later film, but you have the ripping of the coat, the wacky pushiness of Susan/Judy, and both David and Howard having the motivation of winning a grant from a stuffy benefactor.
