One of the things that always strikes me about this movie is how low stakes the audition is. It is just a small dance company that will tour five towns in Texas for the Christmas holidays. And so much murder happens...

Peter

"I'm a star! I'm a star" became the bug meme from this movie.

Chemical Em

i love horror and the wizard of oz (that poor sexy scarecrow) so this movie is fantastic

Peter

I am going to have to keep making you watch horror movies until you appreciate the genre.

Peter

Anywho, I think the takeaway from this movie is that Pearl did nothing wrong and society just hates a woman with ambition.

ScarlettMi

I think Pearl was a stronger movie compared to X, but I do like how it plays with the expectations and sets that were set up in X. There’s a bunch of tension whenever you see a familiar shot or location.

Never saw this before- and just like Kevin, other than the first Halloween, Alien/Aliens, the Shining (or for me, films like Hannibal, Silence of the Lambs) am not into horror or slasher films....This should be renamed- "How to Feed my Alligator"....just saying....other than the gore it reminded me of Pan's Labyrinth in its cinematography and did serve as a kind of Magical Realism take on the pandemic's impact on art since its set in 1918

See above- I'm more into sci-fi gore like Alien/Aliens or mental suspense like Silence of the Lambs or Talented Mr. Ripley but still thought the Magical Realism was great....

A great "Straw Man" for debate: Is it cheating if the life-like mannequin isn't an AI-driven robot but made of straw??...had to say it...but it actually COULD be an intentional theme, which makes part of this brilliant and subversive

Actuarial Lurker

Is the hat after the scarecrow scene a callout to "A Clockwork Orange"?

Actuarial Lurker

Is Mitzy a callout to Mina's friend Lucy in "Bram Stoker's Dracula"

Have either of you ever seen these films. 🤔 I would really appreciate if you’d let me know. Accidental Tourist (1989) Bullets Over Broadway (1994)
