This is one of my favorite movies. Simple, sweet, funny. Brendan Frasier was terrific as the fish out of water. Sissy and Christopher Walken as his parents were great. Dave Foley as well. Alicia was at her peak gorgeousness. My wife and I will still say "Leave my Elevator alone" in the chanting voice, and we saw this in the theater in 1999.

Never saw this- can't help but compare this to Mad Men straight from the opening scene at the party...end of watch edit- VERY funny and surprised that it got middling reviews...glad to see a comedy that isn't a series of insults, toilet humor and crude jokes

Had a huge crush on Alicia in the era, but somehow missed this one! Cool hearing a Dishwalla song! (Pretty Babies is from the Pet Your Friends album: the same album as their hit song Counting Blue Cars.)

Chris Warner

I first saw this in 2000 when staying at a friends house and we rented the vhs, probably because it had Alicia Silverstone, we were shocked how good it was. The Elizabeth Hurley movie was Bedazzled, a remake of the Peter Cook and Dudley Moore movie.

One of the cutest movies ever!

yes! my husband and i do the bit about champagne cocktails whenever i have trouble deciding what i want to drink. he’ll suggest a champagne cocktail, and i’ll say i thought only hookers drank those, and he’ll follow on with the line about mom sure liking them.

This is a perfect movie for the end of a long week! It’s been a while since I’ve seen it - I forgot how fantastic the script is. The wordplay and little jokes all over the place are brilliant! And yes, it looks like everyone in the movie is just having the *best* time. I love the dancing in this movie - I always thought it’d be fun to learn how to swing dance like that. Not much occasion for it now, but still, a lot of fun…I do vaguely remember swing being popular in the 90’s, but I was way too young to go to clubs like that (I would've been, like, 11). Lol, oh well, I'll catch it the next time it comes back into vogue for a minute.

Devon Cooper

Yay!!! You guys are really nailing the movies lately! 80’s and 90’s movies really just hit sometimes 🤩

I've seen this movie before but not since I saw Mad Men, and I couldn't help but think of that show during this viewing. I am convinced I saw Lou Avery at that party. (But if it was him, it's uncredited.) And I never hear "On The Street Where You Live" anymore without immediately thinking of Mad Men. (It plays at the end of the first episode.)

Onno Smits

Last time I saw this was probably 20 years ago! It was a lot funnier than I remembered, and had a lot more of substance to say, between the lines. Great flick! I'd totally be up for a Brandan Fraser poll! 👀 Bedazzled would probably have my vote.

YAAAAY! I'm SO glad you loved my movie! Great reaction! I knew it would be right up your alley! It's one of my all-time favorites! You should definitely check out Encino Man! Along with Brendan, it stars Sean Astin from The Goonies (1985) and Pauly Shore from Son in Law (1993). They are all so great in it! I have to tell you that Brendan's last name is pronounced Fray-zer. No worries, EVERYONE mispronounces it! He went on The Tonight Show, or one of those late shows, and did a hilarious bit about it, and that there's no i in his last name! lol! Thank you so much for watching my movie! I was really hoping it would be one you'd rewatch! It made my day to see you enjoy it so much! My next one, Mr. Holland's Opus, is my favorite Richard Dreyfuss movie! Thanks again, guys! Your reaction was awesome!

You guys: "oh so it's a period piece" Us watching: "well yes but actually no" I think I wrote this off too easily the one time I saw it before as "one more 90s comedy where Brendan Fraser plays a manchild" and just an okay movie. But there's a lot more to like here than I remember. Nathan Fillion did play a heel again in Santa Clarita Diet.. then hilariously when they couldn't get him back for a later season they recast his character with Alan Tudyk. Still bummed that show got canceled, Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were so great together.

Suzanne Whyte

They should add Santa Clarita Diet to the poll next time they have a 30 minutes show slot open up. It’s such a fun show and Timothy Olyphant should do more comedies because he is so funny in this.

This is one of my favorite movies! Did you guys notice that Eve was wearing an engagement ring in her last shot where she's looking out the window at the dad? It's a nice nonverbal continuation of their story.
