Buffy3 1

Gotta love the symbolism of Buffy defeating ultra-industrial capitalist demons with a hammer and sickle. Likewise Buffy’s impression of Ghandi is extremely impressive and undefeated. She could honestly play him in a biopic. Also poor Lily, she is in the past episode with the vampire club, in fact spike literally has his fangs to her throat when Buffy stops him. I like her a lot as a character because she is believably broken, and while she does grow by the end of the episode it’s only gradually, which I feel is realistic. Her pushing Ken off is one of my favorite moments of a side character getting to fight a supernatural being.

I LOVE season 3! Buffy was my all-time favorite show until The West Wing (what can I say, I love smart dialogue in my TV) and I mention that because to me, Buffy season 3 is like TWW season 2. I cannot wait for you to see what season 3 brings.

I think this is the last episode I watched in my previous rewatch about two years ago. So everything from now on I haven't seen in over a decade. It'll be fun to have barely no clue as to what's coming up. Buffy sure likes to start their season with somber episodes. I guess it makes sense after the trauma Buffy goes through in the finales.

I enjoy seeing people rank the seasons, but when this season is not #1, I also think they are crazy and wrong. It takes a couple of episodes to rev up to full fighting strength, but to me S3 can stand up with the best seasons of any television series ever. ... Not to over-inflate your expectations or anything.

Underrated episode and my personal favorite of the Buffy season premieres!

Buffy literally taking back the means of production with a hammer and sickle is peak imagery

Lily pushing Ken is SUCH an underrated moment! I love that it's a small shove that topples him over, it works both literally and metaphorically - she has taken a small but important step away from despair and towards hope. And I like that she's not magically healed at the end, she's still anxious and second-guessing herself but she's finally willing to *try*. The 'hell factory' is a great set piece, it genuinely feels claustrophobic. Really looking forward to rewatching this season with you guys, I can't wait to hear your thoughts!!!

So, which one-shot was cooler: the long scene in the school, or Bronn in Game Of Thrones S7e4? :)

Way too harsh on Joyce given the circumstances. Buffy didn’t have to leave town after what Joyce told her. She could have gone to Giles. She chose to leave Sunnydale because she couldn’t cope with the trauma of having to kill Angel. Let’s not forget she is also a fugitive from the police.

I always feel a little sad when reactors are so hard on Joyce. Of course she blames Giles, he should have told her about Buffy the moment he realized she didn’t know. From what we’ve seen, most Slayer parents are aware their child is The Slayer. For Giles not only to keep Joyce in the dark, but to actually instruct Buffy not to tell her mother, feels outrageous to me. That choice left Joyce vulnerable, unaware of the dangers around her, while also straining and undermining her relationship with Buffy through secrecy and lies. If I were in her place, I’d be furious. Imagine discovering your child has been in constant life-or-death situations, and that another adult knew but told her to keep it from you. I’ve never felt anything but empathy for Joyce in this storyline. Especially remembering the 90s, my favorite era, I think of the moms back then. Many were turning to parenting books, trying to better understand their kids, desperate for some guidance to connect with them and keep them safe. Joyce was doing her best in the only way she knew how. So many of our parents back then would have done the same thing, and said the same thing (“If you walk out that door…”). Part of that likely came from being raised by their own parents in the 60s, a generation that was more hardened, more stoic. These were not the parents of today, who are often more intentional, careful, and self-aware about how their words impact their children, always striving to say the “right” thing.

Love buffy's hair in this episode. In fact, i think a lot of s3 is series best hair, with one notable exception (iykyk) 😂 One of my all time favorite moments of the series is buffy nonchalantly ripping tbe phone off the wall in the clinic. So good Carlos jacott (ken/the main demon) is one of a few actors who joss whedon casts as different characters in buffy, angel, and firefly. They're the Johnny Depp to his tim burton lol Lily and rickie's tattoos look so bad, i feel bad that they spent their money to each get half a kidney bean with a name in the middle 😬
