I loved every second of that. Totally agreed, Jamie Lee Curtis and the actress who plays Natalie were phenomenal and so very real…Although it’s kind of funny, for all the intensity of the episode, I get the impression that they just had *the best* time together on set. And then playing “Baby I Love You”…but then, this show always picks the perfect music (I’m not crying, I just had something in my eye, lol).

As someone who's given birth to a couple of babies I feel like I'm qualified to say this is probably the most realistic portrayal of labor I have ever seen in a TV show. I credit that to the fact that Joanna Calo, who wrote this episode, Abby Elliott & Jamie Lee Curtis are all mothers themselves. It was not Chris Storer's plan to have Natalie have a baby but Abby got pregnant between filming seasons 1 & 2 so it became part of the story. Abby gave birth to her baby before filming season 3 & says she studied the video her mom made of that event to prep for this episode. The labor scene itself was 25 pages long. Abby has said there was some improvisation. (I feel like that spit wash thing wasn't written but it's just a guess.) There was no rehearsal or discussion about the scene between the 2 actresses prior to filming. It was shot in 2 takes using multiple cameras. Filming started at 8:30 a.m. & was finished at 10:15 a.m. (Just another example of how fast this crew works.) In defense of Carmy & everyone else at the Bear not answering their phones, we saw the staff all put their phones in their lockers at the end of the previous episode. And Jimmy had gotten upset in a previous episode because they were paying for a landline even though they didn't take phone reservations so I assume they got rid of it. I think for me this is the most tense episode of the season. The first time I watched it, I had to remind myself to breathe. I just knew Donna was going to go off the rails & she kept making it about herself & I was so relieved when Pete showed up. I think Natalie telling her mom how her behavior affected her ("I feel like everybody's mad at me all the time," etc.) is one of the best bits of dialogue in this entire series & lots of people with childhood trauma can relate, at least I do.

If you remember during last episode, everybody put their phones in their lockers for service. I'm sure everyone else would go check when they're done. The Faks must have been available to head over before before the others.
