I've heard Norm described as "a comedian's comedian" because much of his humor flies over the general audience and lands with veteran comedians.

I loved Chandler Bing..but man how I wish more people knew of the impeccable range Matthew Perry had. He was such a fantastic actor.

The guy playing Ron was also on The West Wing - in "Bartlet for America," just before The Napkin is introduced.

Episode 3 and this show was finding its feet, as is the new Studio 60. The characters are getting more fleshed out and bits of their history is being fed to us, the witty banter between them all is firing and the dialogue has so much humour in it, but with hints of the drama to come. Jordan is the bomb! Jack is definitely not the villian you thought he might be, just, as you said, a man with a huge job and responsibilities trying to make it work. Matt and Danny's dynamic and ride or die relationship comes to the fore in that beach scene. And yes, there is great chemistry with Amanda Peet and Brad Whitford! This show is a huge favourite of mine that I love dipping back into and rewatching ,so it is interesting to see it through new eyes with your reactions. The only thing that let it down for me some times was the sketch comedy was just not funny, but everything else about it saved it for me. RIP Rob Reiner

I kind of suspected this was going to happen: I didn't love this ep. It was fine, but the focus group back-and-forth, the did-the-ratings-stay-up, all that, just hard to care that much about. Amanda Peet's DUI and ex-husband stories had a little more juice. But it's just hard to get revved about a Sorkin-style treatment of this stuff, compared to a show about actual journalism. He doesn't really have the satirical venom this kind of show would need. I do like the Matt and Danny relationship, and the actors in general. Maybe it will go someplace. We'll see.

I love Studio 60. Sorkin is great at drama and inserting comedy into his drama, but I don't buy into his faux sketch comedy. The show within a show is way too preachy and talks down to its audience. SNL was never really a political zeitgeist, they tend to play towards simple exaggerated mannerisms and farce.

The sex club thing was taken from Star Trek actress Jeri Ryan (Voyager she played the hot borg escapee Seven of Nine). Look it up.

Perhaps Sorkin would've benefited from shorter seasons of cable & streaming, as with The Newsroom, rather than network. I don't know how his auteur method was at all compatible with 22 eps of Sports Night or Studio 60, no less The West Wing. More compact structure may have abated Studio 60's bursting budget problem too.

Hooper

So the world's greatest writer, who everyone loves, and who is going to save television with his golden pen, thinks the way to elevate sketch comedy is Gilbert and Sullivan parodies and commedia dell'arte? Hey Sorkin, your Sorkin is showing!

Mariska Costeris

It is like the West Wing without any stakes. I love Bradley and Matthew and some of the others are good too, but it is hard to care about the show within the show.

Michael Bennett

This show is like a blend of The West Wing and Sports Night. The comparisons between doing coke and a DUI were interesting. I don't think that someone's expunged criminal record should be put on public blast, but it sure didn't sound like Jordan was taking responsibility. Matt was completely in the right, she put other people's lives in direct danger. I'm most curious about how things are going to go for Ricky and Ron. They seemed to open the door at the end of the episode for a reconciliation with Matt, but Matt got in his car and drove away instead of walking through it.

There actually was a skit show on Friday nights back in the early 80's, it was called Fridays. Larry David and Michael Richards were both on it.

Daniel Lydford

Matthew Perry's patriotism is 50/50 - he's American born, but grew up in Canada.

Ashley Thomas

that one actor is really good at impressions. i like him better on here than on the big bang. also RIP to rob reiner.

The song Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow is featured in 2 different Sorkin shows. Kinda adds a melancholy note to that final scene.
