Surprised you're not both reacting to it, it's a really popular show. As a former League of Legends I was very apprehensive about them doing a show. They however proved me wrong and spent like 500M+ on both seasons and invested a lot of energy into it. Two seasons, that is a closed story and does everything it set out to do. That's all I say. Also the game has always had lore behind each character. But I think they revamped it all, so that the story of the show would fit it too.

My brother loved the show, and we watched the first three episodes together. I never ended up finishing it even though it was really good, so I'm very excited to watch through the whole thing with you this time around.

I couldn't believe how good this show was. Usually, when they base a show/movie on a video game... it kinda sucks. But Riot takes their IP very seriously and it shows in the quality of show.

Great choice. I don’t normally watch animated shows and I’d never watched anime but a friend strongly suggested I watch Arcane as a gateway anime and I very much enjoyed it. It is based on a video game so it had an existing fan base and it probably adds to the viewing experience if you’re already familiar with the game but I haven’t played League of Legends so I don’t know how closely it follows the game.

It seemed like most of the reactors on YouTube were doing Arcane at one point. I watched quite a few reactions to it and it’s interesting to see the difference between reactors who were players of the game or those who weren’t. Quite a few reactors also seemed to choose this as their first anime or first animated series.

Daniel Andersen

Those reactions are more fun, cause then you'll know if the show works or not. This series was also excellent advertising for the game

If animated tv shows are on the table I really REALLY hope you love this enough to then get into Avatar the last airbender 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Youtalkingtome

I considered Avatar for sure (my knowledge of animated series begins and ends with fare like The Simpsons, so I was really shopping in the dark here).

Youtalkingtome

Thank you! I wasn't sure what kind of game company Riot is. That helps!

Youtalkingtome

Videogame adaptations are usually miss for sure; did you see Doom?? Oof! But between this and Fallout (another property I really don't know much about), maybe the film and television industry is ready to start respecting the IP fans more.

Youtalkingtome

Awesome! If this premiere is any indication, this will be a fun time.

We have talked at length about adding an animated show to our channel, but we just can never seem to fins a good time to fit it in. This just seemed like the best opportunity so far. Of course, we may jointly do others down the road (Avatar, Rick and Morty, and BoJack Horseman always seem to be in the discussion).

@Daniel Anderson I'm sure it was great advertising for the game but personally not enough for me to start playing it... I'd already heard too much about the toxic users and high barrier to entry. If you're considering between Rick and Morty, Avatar, or Bojack Horseman in the future, I'd just throw out there that Rick and Morty has a consistently great first few seasons but declines from there, the later seasons will have a few gems among a bunch of mediocre to bad episodes. Whereas Avatar and Bojack Horseman both tell a masterfully crafted overall story that come to a satisfying end at the correct time.

I did not have this on my bingo card for what would replace Pushing Daisies but I am very on board. Some of the most jaw-droppingly incredible animation ever.

BTW, another great western animation with heavy eastern influences is Netflix's Blue Eye Samurai. While it's in English... all of the VAs are of Asian descent (except for Kenneth Branagh who voices a white guy). There's an episode in there that might be my favorite bit of animated story telling, ever. It is about to release the second season... so I'm not sure how keen you are to watch something not fully released.

The thing that really stands out to me is how closely the mouths match the movements you'd need to actually produce those sounds

gasp

So unexpected but so so welcome, Arcane is such a great piece of television and art in general!!! It really took the world by storm how smth from League of Legends of all things can create an all time great show but here we are. Kinda curious if anime would be on the table at some point👀Attack on Titan is a great gateway show if you’d be interested in exploring the medium! It always bring out interesting discussions and really is a masterpiece🙂‍↔️

This show is sort of an origin story to some of the characters in the game. It's not a direct prequel since a lot of the game's original canon was actually changed by the events in the show. Part of that is because the game has more characters than the show does, so their stories don't line up with what we see.

Maddy D.

It’s the one show I get crazy about. I grew up with it and loved it but then rewatching it with adult eyes is incredible I can’t recommend it enough
