The reason Jame wishes Helena ate the eggs raw is cause that's how Kier ate them every morning

Ari

Oy, Lost was such a disappointment for me, having followed along from season 1. I won't spoil anything but all these years later, I'm still salty about it!

Actuarial Lurker

Lost was good for about 1 season and then went off the rails...

1) I learned this week that the guy who plays the creepy doctor in love with Gemma is Robby Benson, better known for his role as the voice of The Beast in Beauty & The Beast 2) There were some missteps in Lost but I'm a steadfast defender of the finale. My friends and I all adored it.

Cramdeon1969

I guess I'm in the minority mostly. I loved Lost. Got invested in the characters and really enjoyed the Finale.👍👍

A bit of trivia..The After Hours is named after The Twilight Zone episode of the same name…Cobel mentions the specialties department and a gold thimble are another nod 👍 Gotta say I love Helly (and Helena in some ways!). I personally think it was Helena who ordered Burt to get rid of Irving. Not by killing him, but by driving him out of town. She’s conniving for sure, but I don’t think she’d have him killed. I believe that’s what makes her different than her father..he seems like the opposite type. Really looking forward to your reaction to the finale! Personally, I felt the season 1 finale had more tension, but this one coming up had more going on/action. Also wanted to add a link to explain The Twilight Zone episode the title is based off of https://youtu.be/1yVM0mQcpdY?si=XNbPV9S9C-Sv7qtz also noticed a few other Severance nods in that Twilight Zone clip (elevators going to mysterious floors, and other similarities that are a bit spoilery if you want to watch The Twilight Zone episode)

Erin

Yep, episode 2 of season 1!

@Cramdeon1969 you're not alone

Poor little Eustice Huang. Milkshake sent that little girl to Svalbard--the coldest, point on Earth closest to the Arctic circle bc Frolic bullied him. I do love him poignantly gazing at the iceberg poster in his office as if comforting himself about his hidden depths. Milkshake had a baaad day. Good. He deserved it.

Crawnch!

A couple things.. 1. I don’t know if you heard it at the beginning but Helena said to her dad “we’re seeing to Mr. Baliff”, which is Irving’s last name. So they were definitely going to kill him but Burt broke rank and saved him. 2. I had commented on a previous episode where you had mentioned that you thought Helly/Helena may get pregnant and I agreed. The scene at the beginning of this episode definitely makes me think that’s going to happen through some symbolism. Bear with me… Helena splits her egg in two and then into multiples, just as a human egg divides into two and then multiplies when fertilized. She puts them on a plate that depicts a young boy being pulled on either side by two women that look alike. To me this indicates that there’s going to be a conflict between Helly and Helena over the pregnancy. I could be way off but I don’t think this show puts something like that in this show for it not to mean anything.

Actuarial Lurker

Nice observations- why else would they put egg eating in there?

Actuarial Lurker

Its not the finale that is a problem...its the $hit shows of seasons 3, 4 and 5...multiple seasons of hour long broadcast TV content...

Actuarial Lurker

The finale was good- it was the content in Seasons 3 and later that was just bad writing... but I'm a geek in the sense that if you're going to do science fiction make the science parts make sense....

The writing on the back of the drawing is directions from "O&D" - Optics and Design. Burt's colleague wrote them for Irving when he went to visit her earlier in the season and she recognized the drawing. Also - "What is Kier Egan's favorite breakfast?"

Carl Wilson

This is my second time through the series and I had not caught that Baliff was Irv's last name. That clears up a lot, thank you!

Carl Wilson

It seemed pretty clear to me that Burt was breaking his orders by taking Irv out of town rather than to be killed. That's why he told Irv not to let him know where he was going, so that Lumon couldn't get it out of him. I doubt Helena was involved directly. It's unclear to me if they were doing it just because of his assault on Helena-as-Helly on the field trip or because they'd figured out that he was doing his own research into Lumon on the outside. He might even have been working with the anti-Lumon group - which would be ironic, considering what a loyalist Innie Irving was when we met him. Also: That Twilight Zone episode is excellent in its own right.

Lost sucked from the getgo, viewers just couldnt pick up on how incomplete it was until you got a season in. From the beginning they were writing every episode ad hoc for effect, not plot, It just wasn't discernible until a season in as you were approaching a cliff of unresolvable plots. Thank god Severance is the opposite.

yann hollister

The finale is just amazing ! You guys will love it for sure, i can't wait for next week :)

HereBeMeghan

The tragedy of innie Bert wanting to take their relationship further and innie Irving not ready yet (in the garden room at Lumon), and then outie Irving saying “I’m ready” while outie Bert is not willing to take that step. 😭

Can't wait for you both to watch the finale. It is EPIC... and then a long wait for Season 3 :'(. Some notes for this episode: 1. The water tower highlights just how close the Eagans live to Lumon. 2. Mr. Bailiff = Irving Bailiff. Burt had orders to kill him but chose not to. 3. Ms. Huang: The bust said "Wintertide fellowship". Same fellowship that Cobel was a part of as a young girl. 4. The note said " From OAD" aka O&D, the dept where Burt worked. And then from there, "turn right", etc. 5. One of the questions they asked in the first scene of the pilot to Helly: "What is Mr. Eagan's favorite breakfast?". I guess it's one raw egg :)

Youtalkingtome

Thank you! That detail about Ms. Huang being sent off into the same indoctrination camp is really powerful.

Youtalkingtome

That's a really great catch on the symbolism of the egg! Especially with the family depiction on the plate.

Youtalkingtome

Yeah, Milchick is really capable of being a monster when he is pushed to it.

Youtalkingtome

I know we still have the finale to watch, but I felt like Burt was defying orders and acting alone, Maybe in the future we will find out otherwise (I still have hope that Helena will do the right thing when it counts; will she want to see Mark destroyed?

Youtalkingtome

Lost definitely sounds polarizing. We keep wavering on if we will eventually get it on the schedule.

Youtalkingtome

Yeah, the "What was Kier Egan's favorite breakfast line" makes so much sense in this context.

Ari

Yeah, understandable!

Michael Bennett

I loved the duality of Milchick standing up to Drummond and Mark being real with Milchick about just needing the day. Milchick finally allowed himself to step out of the mind prison that Lumon had built for him, and managed to just relate to Mark as a person for a moment. Devon remains one of the best characters on television with such a small amount of screen time.

First time watcher: I think the pregnancy idea is for sure going to happen, and it's been under our noses the whole time this season. I caught a glimpse of something last week in the opening title sequence and needed to see for sure watching this time. There's a moment where we see Mark on his bed with a bunch of Mark babies crawling around on the ground. Later, when Mark's head balloons up, as it's inflating, I'm pretty sure there are jars of baby food that get knocked over on the table. Finally, the last shot, before the eye peaks out of Mark's head, there's another baby that crawls on the floor. I'm not sure whose head is on the baby. He has gray hair and a beard from what I could tell, so I'm guessing it's probably Keir Eagan.

Just Lily

I thought those these jars are not baby food but this liquid he had to drink after unsevering procedures. I think he actually had them in the fridge
