That Would Be Me

Not even mad about doing maybe a 4th rewatch of this. This went right into my yearly carousel of sci-fi TV series. It's that good. Oh and the cast. As good as any other on television show or film.

Neill Shaughness

Sure they could automate the hammer chime guy, but then you would have to fire the hammer chime guy. Look at how much pride that guy puts into his job! You can't fire hammer chime guy!

Kristi Govertsen

Chime guy is the wind beneath my wings.⚒️

Are you intentionally doing two episodes a week, or is this just to start the show, or...? Because while the show is telling one continuous story, it is structured around groups of three episodes, so it would make more sense to do it as either three episodes a week (which I know is way more than you do of any other weekly show) or one episode a week.

Chris

I've always thought Ferrix is very trade union-coded... no way are they letting anyone automate that job.

Chris

I actually think that, because ep 7 throws that structure off in season 1, breaking it in pairs works pretty ok. The awkwardest part I think is actually breaking between 2 and 3 (which obviously they've already done). But for season 2, yes, absolutely what you said.

I concur. You may decide to do 3 at a time, but it could be a long ride. So end the 1st arc next week, and then continue with 1 episode a week, knowing it's going to be combined views afterwards to get the arcs. I've given a primer on how to watch this show in the comments of the 1st episode.

Michael Bennett

@Chris you've basically got it right, this guy is the Time Grappler, and his banging on the beskar anvil signals the beginning and the end of the work shift.

Michael Bennett

This show likes its dramatic music fade-outs on people walking. :) I like what they do with the music in the intro, this was the same theme as episode 1, but a different rendition. Some of the outro music is particularly good. I think Timm's heart is in the right place, he just doesn't have quite enough self respect to go about things in the right way, which would be confronting Bix about her sudden "errands" and obvious secrecy as soon as her ex shows up with blood on his face. And then suddenly the ex is a wanted man. He thinks he's protecting her from being dragged into whatever shady stuff is going down, but jealously certainly plays a big role, and you can see him wrestling with it when she comes over and the following morning.

I'm reposting this here from S1E1: To help the watching of the series, here's a quick guide for Season 1: Ep 1-2-3: Arc 1 Ep 4-5-6: Arc 2 Ep 7: Bridge Ep 8-9-10: Arc 3 Ep 11-12: Finale For Season 2, it's even simpler. It's 4 arcs of 3 episodes. And there's no post-credit scenes, EXCEPT on the LAST episode of each season!

Cristy

White Lotus, you'll get your time one day, lol.

There are so many aspects of this series to appreciate on each watch and rewatch. The costume design, the sets, the music, the worldbuilding, the acting, the writing, the cinematography and direction. I’m excited to go through it again.

Everyone on Kinari looks to be a kid or a teenager and when they all passed the mine it looked abandoned so presumably the mining disaster already happened and it killed the adults/parents. Obviously if the planet was abandoned due to the disaster they should have evacuated the children but it doesn’t seem like anyone cared enough to do so.

micah

i think 3 episodes all at the same time can get a little overbearing because there's just so much good stuff in each episode that could get lost in the shuffle. i think 2 a week is a good pace plus it lasts longer for us. 🤣

Carl Wilson

So are these episodes all just half an hour or so? Strange for a drama - was expecting 45-50 min shows. I'd love it if you kept doing a couple a week.

Carl Wilson

Forgive me, but... IT'S HAMMER CHIME!

Youtalkingtome

These first two are short, so we watched two. It will be one a week henceforth.

Kristi Govertsen

The music in this show is phenomenal, and if you haven’t already noticed, the opening intro song is different with every episode.

Chris Warner

I think next week is another 38 minute episode and after that it settles into 46-50 minutes for the rest of the season.

Crawnch!

Don’t know if you guys noticed but all the people we saw on Kenari were kids. The implication is that all the adults were killed in the mining disaster or by the empire and the kids were left to fend for themselves.

Paul T Hewes

another set of reactors gave Syril Karn the nickname "Try Hard Trent". Very apt.

Paul T Hewes

it was a shame the same composer didnt return for season 2. The music was ok, but it didnt approach the originality of season 1.

Kristi Govertsen

I loved the 2nd season’s music too—it made me cry more than I care to admit.💙

Daren

Love that you’re watching this series! One suggestion: when you get to season 2, your best bet is to watch them three episodes at a time. You don’t have to release them to us like that, but they were designed and released as three-episode arcs so it’ll make more sense to you when watching them.

Actuarial Lurker

Less predictable than Episode 1 but not much action....

Kate Bee

I love the Time Grappler! I like to think it's a position of great honor on Ferrix that gets passed down, because he seems to have a sort of reverence for it and a whole ritualistic approach that was probably taught to him by the previous Time Grappler. Just such a cool little thing to make Ferrix even more of its own character.

Youtalkingtome

It definitely seems like they are setting up the conflicts of the show early on for later payoff.

Youtalkingtome

I loved the score so far for this show. I'm looking forward to seeing how they alter it moving forward!

Youtalkingtome

Yes, it will! The only apprehension we have with WL is that it is still ongoing; we have a jam-packed schedule, and it will be difficult to jump back into some of the ongoing shows as it is (The Bear, Only Murders, Severance, and now Ted Lasso), but we will definitely find a way to get to White Lotus.

Youtalkingtome

For some reason, I thought season 2 was much longer than S1.

Youtalkingtome

All fair points. The real tragedy is that if he just waited until she came over, all of the upcoming mess could have been avoided.

Youtalkingtome

We watched 2 this week on a recommendation (because of their brevity and how closely they tie in with one another). After this, it will just be one a week.

Youtalkingtome

You folks are all correct! Aside from Syril Karn, he might love his job more than anyone. CHIME ON, BROTHER!

Youtalkingtome

I'm really excited to see what they do with the great Stellan Skarsgard.

Paul T Hewes

it was good, but it was playing on the themes from season 1, and it didnt venture too far from those themes. but again, it was good music.

Actuarial Lurker

Hopefully something interesting happens in Episode 3 since others say it "closes an arc"

Roland

also For All Mankind S5 (and maybe Star City). Hacks has another season as well

Youtalkingtome

I was expecting it to be a little longer as well. Seems like future episodes will be longer

Youtalkingtome

That's a good catch. I didn't think about that detail
