It never occurred to me that Bunny waiting outside the door could be seen as funny... I'm sure that wasn't the intention, and I hope nobody took it that way. The lore really starts expanding this episode. If I consider it seriously, the idea that a building this well established could have a hidden network of secret passages that nobody knew about (except kids playing hide and seek) falls to pieces -- as soon as it leaked to one adult, everybody would know and something would be done about it. But who wants to think about it that seriously? It's just so much fun to watch, and adds so much to the story. I eat it up.

Fun fact, my new baby’s name is Lucy. I’d forgotten that was this character’s name. Anyway fun for her to be around and for Charles to have someone else in his life.

I didn't think Bunny being outside the door was funny at all. It was sad and excruciating.

Watching Steve Martin in this series made me realize that I've been watching -- and listening -- to him for nearly 50 years. My first exposure to his comedy was his stand-up album "Wild and Crazy Guy" from 1978. It's definitely worth a listen to get an idea of what his original comedy was all about. Here it is on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=oNG8UtLf-qY

I couldn't stand early Steve Martin and Robin Williams since they were simply manic in my view rather than funny....Steve Martin claims to have been drug free and only joked about drug use since it permeated 70s humor in general while Robin Williams was just a cocaine junkie and so high I don't think he even remembered what he wrote. The death of John Belushi was a real turning point in comedy. When Joe Walsh from The Eagles and The James Gang and solo career said in this interview with Conan that he was truly scared that he would die while partying with John Belushi and Keith Moon of the Who (who both did die from drug and alcohol abuse) given his own excess described in the song "Life's Been Good (so far)" it makes you wonder how many of these guys survived Their later work, after they abandon the drug references or the mania, is when they hit their stride. I don't know how many of these people survived their habits... Joe Walsh Interview with Conan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHedit3p1AU

Of course. I think that's the universal reaction. Your commentary seemed to include worry that it was supposed to be funny, and as far as I can tell, the writers didn't intend that and viewers didn't think that. We all agree that it was a heartbreaking moment.

It could definitely have a laugh-through-the-awkwardness reaction, but I agree, I don't think it was meant to be *funny*.

Yes, Lucy is a wonderful character! And again, another actress just killing it working alongside Steve and Martin. I forgot that the Teddy/Theo scene and the Charles/Lucy scene were from the same episode, this really is packed with some fantastic acting. I also love the scene where Lucy is talking to Mabel, and she finally understands how Charles and Oliver feel when she's talking to them lol.

Interstellar shoutout! Love that movie!

Nathan Lane just got nominated for a Tony for Death of a Salesman on Broadway today! He's got such an amazing range. He's the hardest working man on Broadway...

It's the Nolan film that I've come around on the most
