FUCK YEAH!!! let's go - night made!

danzthename

This is one of those movies that I've probably seen 30 times, and I never get tired of it. Every line is quotable and the soundtrack is perfection.

I loved Grosse Pointe Blank. Good to know you've already seen it, because it's definitely one I was considering purchasing for a watch one day. Narrows down the list a little.

A true classic! This is such a comfort movie for all the girls from my generation. I consider 2001’s Josie and the Pussycats a spiritual successor to this movie…Alan Cumming makes an appearance in that one too. Would love to see your reaction to that one as well!

Lola Lirola

"This dress exacerbates the genetic betrayal that is my legacy" gets quoted by me on the regular. Best changing room sentence ever! There's a wild reenactment of this entire movie (with props!) onstage by drag queens Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolochnikova somewhere on YouTube, and it's hilarious. This movie is such an icon of queer cinema. Fun from first to last frame, and you're right, killer soundtrack! I have to go watch Bottoms now, I think I missed that one, but I'll follow your advice and do the double feature!

it’s my happy place. and josie & the pussycats is always fun. du jour means seatbelts.

Youtalkingtome

We actually already watched Josie & the Pussycats on the channel. You can check it out!

This was hilarious, I loved it, but oh dear God. They remind me of high school so much - the fashion, the way they talk, the hair…and I was definitely in the artsy outsider group with the weird kinda-goth outfits; Heather Mooney would’ve been one of ours…Oh no… I have a 20-year reunion this June. Lol, pray for me 🤣 Wait wait wait - Sugar Ray covered ‘Time After Time’?! I believe you, but…Blasphemy. “I’m the Mary and you’re the Rhoda” - I don’t know if you guys are familiar with this one, but it’s a reference to the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Mary was the main character and Rhoda was the friend. They’re debating who's the main character in their story in such cute way. And that dance sequence with the girls and Alan Cumming - I love it. Perfect. Would I participate in such a thing just to get a reaction out of past classmates?…Yes. (bwah-ha-ha).

Oh wow!!! What an unexpected treat for a Friday night. Thanks guys ….. Just finished watching your reactions and it was “totally” not a surprise you enjoyed it. Such a fun film filled with great music and one liners. Very rewatchable. I had the same response as you Joe when they were about to leave in the helicopter, “What about Ramon’s car?!” This definitely isn’t a movie to take too seriously is it. Just enjoy and have fun.

Statmanjeff

thank you for allowing me to see this

There are so many Friends connections in this! Billy (Vincent Ventresca) is probably best known as Fun Bobby, who dated Monica off and on. Christie (Julia Campbell) also appeared in season 7 as the woman Ross dated when he and Phoebe briefly dated a divorced couple (the other half of which was Christopher from Gilmore Girls). Additionally, Lisa (the amazing Elaine Hendrix) guested on Friends as the woman Ross unsuccessfully tried to pick up at the pediatrician’s office. Then, of course, you have Justin Theroux, who would eventually marry Jennifer Aniston. I just love this movie; it’s always been a favorite of mine. There is absolutely nothing bad about it. Brilliantly done.

Ooh, I'm gonna have to find that drag queen video! Trixie and Katya are way too much fun together!

Yay, so glad you guys had a blast! It's so funny because I'd just rewatched this for the first time in quite awhile and was genuinely thinkoing of adding it to my list of movies to buy and then, like 2 days later, you guys did the poll! Maybe something was in the air, lol. I saw this in the theater with my best friend when we were 16 and we both loved it so much. Totally related to Romy and MIchelle during the high school scenes. I wasn't able to attend my 10 year high school reunion but I did attend the 20 year and actually had a nice time. I love that this movie, as silly, fun, and light-hearted it is, still gave enough room for the characters to have their own little stories and to show that everybody was dealing with stuff that other people weren't aware of. I appreciated the different aspects of the social hierarchy that it wasn't only focused on just who was part of which clique but showed a little of the hierarchy and friction within those groups. I'm not trying to say that the movie is super deep but it gave a little more than one would expect.

Man, I love this movie. I remember this being kind of dismissed at the time as silly or whatever, but I've never met anyone who doesn't love it. And yes, there's some pretty incredible filmmaking on display. And my God, the soundtrack! I used to dream of recreating that "Time After Time" dance number, but I imagine it's been done many many times at reunions and weddings and such since the movie came out. This movie came out a couple of years *after* Mira Sorvino's Oscar win. It was also while she was still dating Quentin Tarantino.

The first time I ever watched this movie I was recovering from root canal surgery and it felt like a fever dream. The second time I watched it I was perfectly healthy and it still felt like a fever dream. This whole movie is insane, I absolutely love it! And yeah, the camera work/editing goes unneccessarily hard. The opening actually reminds me a lot of The Birdcage.

Jeneane Garofalo just makes everything better!

Actuarial Lurker

20th year reunion?!?! ...I missed my 40th in 2024...and Mia Sorvino is 58...I'm getting old....

Actuarial Lurker

The ONLY reason that I even have a Facebook account was because our class organized our 25th reunion in 2009 on there after a few people tracked down e-mails and did friend invites. It actually served as an island of sanity during the pandemic and Trump 1.0 since basically our whole class is composed of the same "NYC elitist liberals"...

Youtalkingtome

I will definitely check that out! There are aspects of this movie that would be hard to pull off onstage!

Youtalkingtome

I still want to see the scene: "Hey, baby, where's my car?"

Youtalkingtome

I looked up this and Grosse Pointe Blank after, because I was curious if audiences at the time had a preference. It turns out, surprisingly, they had small box office numbers (around $30 million).

Youtalkingtome

For sure, the long opening shot of this is very similar to The Birdcage; this one has the added degree of difficulty of pushing the camera right through a shaded window!

Youtalkingtome

She's Amazing! Nobody does deadpan cynicism like Janeane.

Lola Lirola

Would have been an amazing post-credit scene!

Courtney

Of all the things in this movie, I don’t know why this cracks me up. The “ask me again when I’m 30” line about Romy and Michelle hooking up got even better when I realized they’re already 27/28

Marla Mize

It's a super fun movie. Hope you give "American Graffiti" and "Dazed and Confused" another chance.
