Heaven Can Wait (1978) is the first Warren Beatty film I saw at age 12...Shampoo was too "adult" at age 9 given all the sex- so I never have seen this

Nick Stark

I’m not sure if I’ve seen this movie. Always wondered about it though. Looking forward to finally watching alongside you both.

I remember the stylist who worked on the hair of all of my elementary school friends' mothers (and cut my hair too) in the mid-70s...I thought he might be gay but when I think back about it more he was a dead-ringer for Barry Gibb with the open polyester shirt, gold chains and 1970s chest hair-taco so he probably was like this guy sleeping with half the female clientele....

For some reason, I thought she was 19 in Star Wars and was underage here. That’s good to know.

Heaven Can Wait is another movie with Beatty, Julie Christie, and Jack Warden. I remember trying to decide whether to see it or A Different Story with Perry King. I chose Heaven Can Wait which apparently was a good choice.

Lee Grant won an Oscar for this. After winning an Oscar in 1951 she was blacklisted in '52 from most acting roles and only started to rebuild her career in the mid-60s.

.....which ALSO co-stars Julie Christie and Jack Warden! Also very much the difference between 1975 and 1978! (Really 1974, since Shampoo came out in early '75.....and feels even closer to that year).

Shampoo was filmed in mid 1974, when Carrie Fisher was 17. (from Wikipedia, and a number of other stories about Warren Beatty trying to sleep with her)

“At the time, I was 17 and making Shampoo,” Fisher explained. “He offered to relieve me of the huge burden of my virginity. Four times. That was the big offer. I decided against it.” Debbie Reynolds (Carrie Fisher's mom) threatened Beatty to take a hit out on Beatty if he touched her daughter. That didn't stop him from trying.

Update- her birthday was in October 1956 so if this was filmed in 1974 then she was 17 during filming, was 18 when it came out in early 1975 and turned 19 after it was released Given the movie Almost Famous, Woody Allen, and this I become more disgusted the more I learn With any luck they did what was done on the Taxi Driver set to protect Jodie Foster from PDF types

I saw Heaven Can Wait first run with my parents when I was 12...it actually is a bit existentially heavy for kids given the subject matter. Dyan Cannon will be Kevin's new heart throb over Anne Hathaway if he's into the 70s blonde look...10 year old me had the Farrah Fawcett in the red swimsuit poster in 1976 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farrah_Fawcett_red_swimsuit_poster

" This is a musical right?" It's a prequel to Hairspray.😀

Always a great watch with you guys. Julie Christie is heavenly. Had the biggest crushes on her and Goldie Hawn then. They practically cast Heaven Can Wait from this film. ☮️

Loved it! Seriously have not stopped thinking about this movie

Someone's gonna have a twisted expectation of either Shampoo or Hairspray, depending which they've seen first.

McCabe & Mrs. Miller is a great mood movie (though seemingly pointless), early Altman film with both Warren Beatty and Julie Christie, and an incredibly haunting soundtrack by Leonard Cohen. It's an odd film but will haunt the back of your mind somewhere forever, once you've seen it.
