I absolutely love this movie, the sheer absurdity of the storyline, the characters all put together with fantastic performances and writing

Oh and shout out to Brad Pitt, one of his underrated roles along with 12 Monkeys which you must absolutely check out if you haven’t seen it. It’s by the legendary Terry Gilliam of Monty Python fame, so good!

Nice!!!

One of the funniest films of the past 25 years...

All we needed in that online dating sex scene at 25:15 was "Yep Yep Yep...".

I read that Brad Pitt had concerns about playing such an "idiot" character, but the Coen brothers just reassured Brad & said to "just be yourself". 😆 Also this movie is part of the “trilogy of idiots” movies written for George Clooney by them.🤣

That's a back wedge to prop you up in bed if you have a bad back....

Love this movie, but watching this when it came out I was really not on board for about the first 30 minutes, it takes a while to realize what kind of movie this is going to be. But once it gets to bits like "I thought... you might be worried... about the security... of your shit" I couldn't stop laughing.

This is one of my favorite things about the Coens, when they take on a classic genre but populate it with idiots (or arguably, characters who are more like normal humans than typical movie characters). Though not played for comedy their first film, Blood Simple, did the same thing with noir films.

People sleep on Intolerable Cruelty. I think that movie's funny AF.

Mitch

You think that's a Schwinn xD

Fantastic reaction to one of my fave Coen Brothers movies. For me, it's Blood Simple, Raising Arizona, Fargo and Burn After Reading. And they're all similar in that they're about capers gone wrong, parodying regionalisms and playing violence for comedy. And they all have Frances McDormand in them! Watching this movie with you guys just now, in this time period of 2026, I see it's about American idiocy. Maybe ALL of those movies are about American idiocy! :P

I'm so glad you enjoyed this as much as I do. And in particular, that you took note of two of my favorite things about it (that don't always get mentioned). 1, that in a cast of distinguished actors all at their peak, Brad Pitt walks off with the honors. And 2, the reveal late in the movie that Tilda Swinton is a PEDIATRICIAN. It cracks me up just to think about that. And all that being said, the truly stellar scenes are the two summing-up dialogues between David Rasche and J.K. Simmons. I love them so much....

I SUSPECT, but don't know for certain, that this film was a cultural response to A) GW Bush post 9-11 neocon paranoia B) The Bourne movies and revival of Daniel Craig's Bond that resulted To have a pseudo spoof turning a bunch of "losers" from different walks of life into a spy thriller is sheer genius

Youtalkingtome

I agree, the great payoff scenes with JK Simmons were the funniest of the movie.

Thanks! I was genuinely wondering if it was a sex thing, based on earlier reveals.

With these weirdos you never know, especially if its hypotenuse is laid flat on the mattress

Late comment: the angled pillow thing Clooney carries around is a sex wedge. Elevates the lady parts. But I'm just guessing. Ahem.
