You missed a scene or two during the closing credits. Check it out.

Tyler Explains It All

I was adopted and I have zero desire to find my birth parents. So, I never relate to these storylines.

This movie was completely off my radar like Mother was and I loved this. I’ll watch anything with Alan Alda and Mary Tyler Moore but this whole cast was great. 1996 was really a great year for movies. I was looking through the list of all the movies I’ve seen from that year.

Lola Lirola

They always stop the movies immediately and miss out any credit scenes! 😩 I suggest having them on on mute during the discussion, instead of stopping them, just in case!

I’m not adopted, but I’m kind of with you, especially here. What kind of narcissist thinks he is going to solve all of his problems by replacing his parents?

We watched it after this comment. Thanks for letting us know!

There actually IS a 5th floor of the New York Museum of Natural History where we see that the two of them work... In Senior Year we had to do an internship so in 1983-1984 and I worked in the Scanning Electron Microscopy lab coating samples with gold foil a few nanometers thick, running the spectroscopy equipment, setting up the PDP-11 computer recording readings off the lab equipment and actually running the microscope for researchers studying the etching of silicon wafers and determining the gender of microscopic sea life exposed to pollutants. Other labs down the hall restored the exhibits liek we see here and kept insect libraries like the one Clarise visited in Baltimore where the 2 grad students identified the moth in the victims mouth in the movie...

Kevin, you speak way too soon....Its not narcissism or silly- especially if the adoptive parents turned out to be emotionally or physically abusive...imagine feeling as if you were "given away" and then being mistreated by the people who "rescued you"...it can lead to some true soul-murdering damage to your self worth.... I've had long term relationships with 2 women who were adopted and BOTH wanted to find their birth parents, DID, and were glad to have done it since it provided closure- resolving feelings of being discarded or unwanted. One meeting happened WHILE we were together and I was there when they met in person. Her adoptive parents were friendly and caring but neurotic like these characters and were a bit hurt by it but also understanding- so I didn't understand her compelling reason. The other met the birth family before I ever met her...she discovered that they were very flawed and she in a sense was better off adopted since they at least helped her be independent and accomplished. She came to understand that "she wasn't the problem" it was the various adults that were F-d up. Her adoptive mother had VERY badly emotionally AND physically abused her..so meeting the birth family helped deal with a lot of baggage before I met her....given that my parents were monsters I understood the need to find out AND the need to stay FAR away from the adoptive parents... It can be very important even for health reasons to know if you have genetic issues in your biological family and are worried about that when planning a family...

You don’t need to find your birth parents for genetic reasons anymore. You can get genetic testing done now. And also, not all adopted people think like that. I personally could give a fuck about my birth parents. I don’t really care. I’m happy and love my parents. My mother waiting until she was 47 to find her birth parents. She did it out of respect for my grandma who would have been super upset and felt like she wasn’t good enough for my mom. So, every story is different. In the movie case, it was narcissistic of him. He was a horrible selfish person.

It really was a great year. I've been looking at the films that year and there are many I can't wait to see.
