Jan de Bont was the cinematographer on a movie called Roar where he was nearly scalped by a lion he had to get 220 stitches you can see a photo of his injury online.

You might think this is the most 80s movie ever made...but you haven't seen Earth Girls Are Easy yet. Everything that Bette does though is my favourite thing. Going all the way back to her start with Barry Manilow...I hope you do Big Business or Outrageous Fortune at some point.

I love high-concept 80s comedies. Also, spent my childhood convinced I needed a nice feel-good friendly kidnapping to get in shape.

Almost forgot how outlandish and hilarious this movie is. Watching you both laughing hysterically made it even more enjoyable. Bette Midler did another film around the same time as this with Shelley Long. It’s called Outrageous Fortune and is well worth a watch.

A few people have mentioned Outrageous Fortune. Sounds good!

SOOO great to hear the hearty laughs guys!! Interesting tidbits: This was Bill Pullman’s screen debut. This set a record as Disney’s highest grossing film at the box office for one of their movie’s initial run (taking into account re-releases, there are of course Disney films that would, or already did, make more), as well as being number eight for the year, and the second highest grossing R rated film of the year (Aliens is the highest R-rated for 1986). I find it humorous that Disney needed a raunchy, black comedy to be its number one film. Despite its success, it was never number one at the box office. The recent Obsession joins this title in a very elite group of movies that managed to actually improve its gross in its second, and then again in the third, week of release. This was the last film ZAZ would be credited as being directed by all three. They continued to work together, but there would be only one credited director after this point. Helen Slater was in Supergirl and The Legend of Billie Jean prior to this. The following year she would star alongside Michael J. Fox in the comedy hit The Secret of My Success. I wish she hade done more comedy, because she actually showed she was pretty adept at it. Kevin, I’m so glad somebody else enjoys Drowning Mona! Lastly, as somebody else has stated before, I think you’d both enjoy Earth Girls are Easy. Please consider it to adding any appropriate poll you may have in the future for comedy, sci-fi, 80s, or musicals. 😎 Thank you for another great reaction.

Don't forget Big Business with Lily Tomlin...and Lily Tomlin, lol

These opening credits remind me of mannequin’s opening credits.

The year before this, DeVito and Reinhold did a movie together with Rick Moranis called Head Office. My sister and I quoted it for years. I think the title, the cast, and the year tell you all you need to get the idea.

Thanks Rob Bob, what a great pick. Amazing cast; I love Judge Reinhold so much. Can't wait to watch!

Big Business is one of my faves, she's so good in it.

Great one guys! Such a fun movie. Bette Midler had some really good movies in the 80s. I remember another one when she is paired up with Shelley Long - 'Outrageous fortune', which was hilarious too.

batman returns is so much fun and has the dark burton edge with the devito penguin whereas batman & robin is so campy and fun with uma thurman is eating the scenery, a cartoon come to life!

Chemical Em

another hidden gem ive never heard about before but now im telling everyone!, so much fun

I always thought it was kinda fun that Helen and Christian Slater are unrelated, but they play siblings in Billie Jean. Throw in young RDJ and Keith Gordon, it's a really fun time capsule, from the makers of Batteries Not Included.

Summer 86 was ridiculously fun. Thist, Top Gun Aliens, Ferris Bueller, Back to School, Running Scared, Manhunter, Stand By Me, Raw Deal, One Crazy Summer, Big Trouble in Little China, plus the Expo here, it was kinda nuts.

Julzy

I just thinking about this movie then the notification dropped ~ kismet! This was Bill Pullman's first movie so when I first saw it he was just this wannabe Crockett from Miami Vice not President Whitmore. ha ha

Brandon

One of the most wildly irresponsible movies ever made! You guys have got to watch it some time.

Youtalkingtome

God what a great year. I'd be at the movies all year

Youtalkingtome

I've actually heard about this! Yeah, I'd love to watch a behind the scenes for that movie
