The Show Must...

- It's Meryl time! She's done a good bit of TV before this, including Big Little Lies a few years earlier. And she won an Emmy for the Angels in America miniseries. - I love the accent gag with the Queen of Accents. - Also quite happy to see Michael Cyril Creighton in the main credits. - The show at the beginning is No Strings, and I'm guessing the woman singing "The Sweetest Sounds" is meant to be Diahann Carroll, who was in the original cast.

5 seasons have aired, season 6 is coming later this year. Most likely it will be over by the time you get to it so that'll be nice and seamless!

Congratulations on beginning Season 3! I have so been looking forward to this.... The musical which young Loretta attended in the pre-credits sequence is NO STRINGS. It was the first musical Richard Rodgers wrote after the death of Oscar Hammerstein (Rodgers wrote the lyrics himself), and it did open in 1962 (though not at the "Gooseberry Theatre," which is fictional). They played the beginning of the actual Original Cast Recording, with the voice of Diahann Carroll. It takes place in Paris, so the set was appropriate to the show, and the actress is indeed credited as playing "young Diahann Carroll." (The song, "The Sweetest Sounds," was interpolated into the Brandy telecast of Cinderella, so it might be familiar to some for that reason.)

Tobert, Ben's camera operator for his documentary, is played by Jesse Williams, who after many seasons on Grey's Anatomy made his Broadway debut in 2022, in the leading role in the play Take Me Out. I mention this because of a fun connection: his understudy in the production was Ryan Broussard, who plays Oliver's son Will on OMITB.

i like the first two but i was so excited to get to this season.

Great timing, today is Meryl's birthday. I think she's known Steve and Marty for years. She and Steve were in "It's Complicated" in 2009.

I'm so happy we finally got here. Her relationship that developed during the show with Martin Short has been so sweet with everything he's gone through.

I saw Paul Rudd in maybe 1998 as Orsino in Twelfth Night opposite Helen Hunt and Kyra Sedgwick - killer cast, it was filmed for Live from Lincoln Center if you can find it. Gorgeous set design and music. Anyway my friend and I met him at the stage door and the best I could manage to say was “I loved you in Clueless.” Nice guy 🤣.

That 1962 production was notable for casting Diahann Carroll opposite Richard Kiley, a white man, which wasn’t done. Although the characters’ race isn’t discussed at all in the show, the casting was quite progressive for the time.

Ah! Meryl! How fabulous - I love her! This is such a fun setup! And yes, totally agreed, Paul Rudd is hilarious as *the worst* man. My first instinct is that the brother did it… therefore, of course, there’s no way that he actually did. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mabel finds a way to stay in the building…or perhaps more likely, if Charles and Oliver find a way for her. They’re basically a little family now, so there’s no way they’re going to let her go - especially if that’s not what she wants either (which it doesn’t seem like…plus we have a couple more seasons, so, y’know, there’s that).

“There’s someone A-List in this show and I don’t know who it is or when they show up” Oh it’s A++ List 😂

Lola Lirola

Hells yeah, it's Meryl time!!!

Love it! He still looks basically the same as he did in Clueless, lol.

I love Ashley Park who is in this season, (she plays Kimber) not sure if you guys picked her or know her. She's a Grammy and Tony nominated actress and has been in a lot of things.

I absolutely HOWLED with laughter at the table read scene the first time I saw it! The accent fiasco still gets me good! This is the season I've rewatched the most - it has a backdrop of theatre, it has two of my favourite actors of all time (Rudd and Streep), and...many other things that are all spoilers at this point lol.

seth e.

always love a Canada reference in US film/tv, but as someone from Halifax and currently living in even foggier southern Nova Scotia, this one made me particularly happy

Jontor11

Great one! Loved the look on Keith and Joe's faces when Meryl Streep walked in... :-)

Youtalkingtome

There was so much to love about the table read, but I was definitely most into watching Rudd and Streep pretend to be terrible actors!

Youtalkingtome

For sure, I can't imagine the show about murders in the Arconia not having one of the leads living in the Arconia. I'm sure they have a plan for keeping her there (I mean, Charles and Oliver both have massive apartments).

Youtalkingtome

I didn't recognize him (probably because of the camera). I remember him from Cabin in the Woods.

Keef Girgo!

It's really fun to see her in this because you can tell she's having fun with it - same with Mamma Mia, she does a lot of serious roles so it's great to see her comedic side too

vala p

Usually people reference Detroit Become Human, I'm impressed you went Broadway 😀

Vanilla gets a bad rap. It's expensive and rare and delicious and people need to stop equating it with dull and boring. Meryl Streep is vanilla in the truest sense.

Youtalkingtome

Vanilla Ice Cream is the best ice cream and I will die on this hill.
