Actuarial Lurker

Given the heavy moral and political weight of my past picks I figured I would just go with something funny but dark this time,,,

Kathleen Turners career was slowed by rheumatoid arthritis at age 40.

Speaking of Sam Waterston if you've never seen it check out the TV show Ill Fly Away it is available to watch on YouTube.

I can’t lie, as a Baltimore area local with a 212- - zip code, I’ve used the ‘212 fuck you” line more than you might expect is useful. It does spark joy! And I really miss Hammerjacks, the now closed music venue here.

This is definitely one of my guilty pleasures. It’s so absurd that it’s hilarious. At least in my opinion. I’ve been anxiously waiting for your reaction on this. The key to enjoying this is to not take it even remotely serious. Okay let’s start …..

Less than a year LATER we had the OJ trial and this was right around the time of the debut of Court TV that turned these trials into circuses...Waters with his brilliant social satire....

Juror 8 wearing white after Labor Day is Patty Hearst

I did not recognize her at all. I had completely forgotten that she was an actress.

Waters considered casting Glenn Close, Meryl Streep, or Julie Andrews for the lead

This is my favorite John Waters film. Something about the chicken dinner scene almost makes me question my love of chicken. ha ha

I did a movie with the crew that worked on this film about 18 months before. Sam Waterston was actually in that movie for awhile before I'll Fly Away got picked up and he had to drop out. The crew were talking about working with Patty Hearst on Crybaby so I told them about my aunt who was obsessed in her later years trying to prove Patty Hearst had lived in her basement during her disappearance. (she didn't) The crew told Patty the story and she wrote my aunt a note.

For work I drive through the Serial Mom neighborhood 4-5 times a year.

Lola Lirola

Kathleen Turner was also very notoriously the voice of Jessica Rabbit. She's always played sultry so well. She asked not to be credited in the film because she thought it was going to be a flop and it would hurt her career. Little did she know!

Nick Stark

Just got through watching your reaction. I couldn’t agree with either of you more. Definitely didn’t disappoint. As you both mentioned, Body Heat is an excellent film. Siskel and Ebert rated it one of the best films ever made. As did the American Film Institute.

I love this movie. Great taste Actuarial Lurker! This is by far the most accessible of John Waters’ movies, except maybe the original Hairspray. But I would love to see you all react to Pink Flamingos

Joseph Irizarry

Oh my God. I love this movie. John Waters stole my heart at the impressionable age of thirteen. My first Waters film; seen all the major ones. Looking forward to the watch!

Have you guys seen The War of the Roses with Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas, and directed by Danny Devito? If not, I want to purchase it for you. There was a recent remake with Olivia Coleman that I haven't seen. I hear it's fine but its watered down a little from the original and the characters aren't quite as awful.

Andy Schreiber

It was fun watching you guys enjoy this ridiculous, over the top, completely fun movie. Kevin, I loved when you were talking about how you and John Waters were on the same page about people who obsess over serial killers. The actual truth is that Waters himself is obsessed with them, in a sort of gruesome fascination way. A lot of his films are about crime and criminals, turning the very notions into farce - most notably in one of his most notorious films, "Female Trouble." He's written and spoken about his fascination for years. As much as I'd love to see you guys react to his earlier films, I'm pretty sure that for YouTube you'd have to cut them down to about five minutes, they're so filthy. But if you ever want to watch him at his filthy, depraved, low-rent best, I honestly think "Female Trouble" is one of the funniest films ever made.

Youtalkingtome

I feel like she was perfect for this role! I hope she really turned around and accepted that she was perfect for this

Youtalkingtome

I can't wait to see Hairspray! I would love to see more of his work. He is a huge blindspot for me

Ben Gilbert

Waters is fascinated with true crime and has gone to several famous murder trials, including the Charles Manson trial.

Carl's girlfriend at the flea market was porn star Traci Lords who caused a scandal when it came out that she was underage.

Actuarial Lurker

Very similar to Lord Denethor eating with his hands as Faromir rides into a slaughter in Return of the KIng

I love Seral Mom, Hairspray, Polyester, Female Trouble, and Pecker. I like several others, but in some cases, I like the idea of a John Waters movie more than actually watching them.
