Well, it’s official then, Rabbi is my favorite. He understands the system that he is in, sees it clearly for horrific thing that it is, and says no. He could not do it for himself as a child, and perhaps lacked the motivation/courage before this, but on behalf of this kid he’s refusing to let the cycle repeat. I just about cried when he was explaining ‘I didn’t get to choose, but you do’. Also - for what it’s worth - I’m about 90% certain the book the kid (sorry, I don’t recall his name) is reading to Rabbi earlier is Upton Sinclair’s ‘The Jungle’. The text is talking about two types of prisons - either way, it’s separating people from crucial resources and thus real freedom; then we hear the name “Jurgis,” so I’m pretty sure that’s it. And it feels very apt. Especially for the kid and Rabbi - people trapped in a system. It's such a brilliant, subtle detail.

A couple more notes… Joe - Olyphant/“like a Bugs Bunny thing.” I hadn’t previously considered that, but I really like that idea… I would absolutely love it if he started some sort of equivalent to the ‘rabbit season/duck season’ argument between mafias. Kevin - “His children are borderline potatoes.” That is a fantastic line! I may have to use it later... You guys are absolutely right though, there’s a trend of the second generation screwing it up, whatever ‘it’ is, because they had it handed to them. To expand on the idea, there seems to be a trend in history that whenever the people in power start to believe their own mythology, a fall is never far behind. Or at least, let’s hope so.

Though I was expecting this for several episodes, thank you to Rabbi for giving us someone to cheer for this season who is part of the main story. Your little dissertation on the thinning of bloodlines was right on. Leaving behind only a Sonny and a Fredo pretty much explains why there are no Faddas of any note in the Kansas City mafia in season 2 -- though Ebal introduces us to Joe Bulo (from New York) in the beginning of the episode. Though Ethelrida and Oraetta's stories are interesting, I'm still waiting for them to be somehow integrated into the main plot.

I have never read The Jungle, I really need to. Rabbi is absolutely the best!

I am waiting for them to integrated as well. I feel like we have so much story left

Kevin here. I have read The Jungle. It's a perfect fit here: each new wave of immigrants is just another group to be taken advantage if, like the mob families moving in to KC as just more fodder. It's a brilliant connection.
