Ekko was with Jayce and Heimerdinger investigating the rune thing last episode when SOMETHING happened to them, but we don't know exactly what yet. As far as the other characters know they've just been missing, but there seems to have been a time skip of at least a few weeks so the Firelights may be assuming Ekko is dead. Similar with Mel, we saw her get taken last episode by this "black rose" group that are her mother's enemies so she's just been missing as well. Her mother's name is Ambessa btw, though I'm totally with you on loathing her.

The scene with everyone coming to put their hands on Jinx's shoulders is incredibly sweet. It looks as though it healed something in her, likewise with the scene right after with Isha. That plot twist at the end was unexpected for most people, but it had been theorized prior that it was Vander. I love the shock whenever this scene comes up haha, very effective. All around a rather heartwarming episode actually!

I think Ambessa is much more nuanced than "evil bad guy". It's probably the most obvious example of a character you look back on after you're done with the show, and sort of start to decipher a bit more faithfully. Though she's definitely (obviously) leaning harder on the evil side. With a multitude of shades of grey! Though she does use family/other things as a justification to serve herself (on the surface), it ultimately serves said family in her view, and I believe her love is no doubt real. What she perceives vs. what is perceived is perhaps different, but that's another topic. Intent vs. impact.

I don’t really like them bringing Vander back as a monster. He was one of my favourite characters and his death was tragic but he died a hero, trying to save his kids. To find out he has been subjected to medical experiments for the past 7 years or so and is now a monster Is honestly heartbreaking.

Agreed this is a story choices that really doesn't work for me. It feels contrived and undercuts his death before and everything that shapes vi and jinx. I also didn't think there was anything like that in Watwick's lore in the game?
